I've been itching to build a HTPC for a long time now but haven't had the funds for all the hardware. Fortunately I've obtained an old HP d530 Small Form factor PC with a P4 2.8.
So, to business:
Budget for Video Card: ~$100
What I want the machine to do in order of priority.
1. Record TV - Not necessarily while watching TV
2. DVR function - By this I mean pause, rewind, FF, and such.
3. HDTV output. - 720p
Here's the hardware I have:
P4 (2.8)
500gb HDD - IDE
HP mobo
HP PSU - 240W
TV: Vizio 32' hdtv. 720p max. Although when the Xbox is plugged in it says it's on 1080p? Not sure if that's just the signal coming in or if the TV is actually running at that resolution.
The case can fit either a half-height AGP or full size PCI card. At this point All I really need is a good card that my PSU can run and some pointers if there is a glaring problem with my setup.
As far as software I'm going to run linux, either XBMC or MythTV I think.
