Cheapo voodoo v3 2000 PCI Circuit City

There is currently a 30.00 rebate from Circuit City, and maybe others on this card.

Mine was 85. -30. = 55 dollars

I know people are always looking for these. I usually see them for about 45-50 used, so this is a nice bargain.

Go get em.

I got one today, and plan to give it to my sister for XMas (she currently has onboard vid...yeachh.

Holding out for a 4500 PCI. Reviews on this look pretty good. With all of 3DFX's turmoil I'm hoping the cards get discontinued...

Not NVIDIA performance, but FSAX2, 32 Bit color, and great performance for a PCI card (Anandtech review rated it almost as fast as the AGP model).

which would be faster: The voodoo3 or getting a second Voodoo2 and going SLI????

I'm always suprised at how many PCI videocard options there are out there. If you really liked your sister you would get her the $260 ATI RADEON All In Wonder PCI.

Well, Matt, some cats bought their first pc's without realizing what a dog it is to have Intel AGP 3D video integrated on their motherboard and have no agp slot to fill. For those &quot;cats&quot; there is no other alternative other than a PCI video card which means a 3Dfx Voodoo card, either a Voodoo 2 (cheap but effective) a Voodoo 3 (preferably 3000, still a bargain, but more expensive than a V2) or a Voodoo 5 5500 PCI (most expensive, but coming down and the Ultimate PCI solution for motherboards without a AGP slot)
Me? I am happy with my pair of Geforce 2 MX cards on my MSI-6309 motherboards and my Voodoo 3 3000 PCI on the Soyo SY7IWM with the Intel 810 chipset and the integrated Intel 3D graphics on board (now disabled).

If you have a fast CPU (I do PIII800), AGP and PCI Voodoo 4500/5500 cards perform almost exactly the same. Check out the reviews on Anandtech and elsewhere. There's a very slight edge to the AGP, nothing worth upgrading a MB over.

Why upgrade my MB to get one or two more FPS in Q3????

Plus even if I had AGP graphics, I'd probably use that for an NVidia card and STILL get a Voodoo as my second card (lots of old glide games).

Holding out until I can get a Voodoo 4500 for $80 or so. I've read through the threads on the cheap 5500 and it sounds like a lot of hassle, Plus I'm in no rush. Until last week, I was playing Q3 with a Voodoo2 on a PPRo 200. I've read all the reviews and I think the 4500 will have plenty of power to keep me happy......

I'd jump all over the V3 deal, that's a great price, but I realy want 32 Bit 3D....

I personally think that the Washington Huskies are the luckiest and probably the most overrated team in the top 25, but you know how geographic loyalties are. What is it about voodoo cards and irritability.

Just start arguing about Nvidia and 3dfx like people usually do when there is a post about one or the other.

The rebate is a mail-in btw.
Also, I bought this card b/c (at the risk of her reading this) I plan to use it for a week and lan-game with it on an old machine i have.

After that, I plan to give it to my sister for XMas. I told her I would find her one used. Doing that costs about 45.00 usually, SO I picked this up instead.

If I were to buy a 5500 or a 4500 then I would have a tough time giving it away.

I plan to buy one for myself and my new AMD system in about a month, when the 5500 is down to ~90-100 bucks.

Bet that wasn't what you were thinkin when you asked why people buy these.

Hey Matt, I apologize if I was condescending. Some people do own boards with integrated video (purchased before they knew better, probably) and some may even be sensitive about it. Thanks for laying off the profanity, I have 3 sons, and I like it better when people don't resort to bad language which could be read by 9, 11 and 14 year olds.

and Innosuke, do you really think the voodoo 5 5500 will get down to $90-100? I have noticed a $100 drop in their prices at Bestbuy yesterday when I was in there. It seems to me if the V5 5500 is down to $199 at Bestbuy, then the voodoo 4 is grosssly overpriced at $149 and the voodoo 3's should be dropping to around $50 for the 2000 and maybe $60-65 for the 3000. Amazing!

As for the price thing...I agree, at the current time, the V4 is way overpriced, and junk if you ask me. I would go w/a V3 any day over a V4, but as I did Friday...I would buy a nice shiney, big, V5 for 145 and pop that in the case. And if you want PCI, they got it...so, your good either way. I doubt they will drop below 100 in the near future (maybe 6 months)...because I think that the 100+ price drop that has already ensued will inflate sales for the time being...it got me motivated, and a lot of others on this board.

Alright, I gotta get out of here...time for some classes.

I am getting a V5 5500 PCI to run with my GeForce 2 GTS. Best of both worlds... run two monitors, glide, OpenGL.... FSAA, SPEED. Ah.... And the AGP version of the V5 offers little if any performance increase over its PCI counter-part.

thats the only reason i'd get a v4 or v5, they don't even have 32 bit color, and if you look and anands reveiw of the new voodoos the geforce 2 mx is better at 648by480 and 800by600 in all the gaming tests than the V4 4500 if i remember correctly. i'm putting my money in a geforce2 mx or gts
