Cheating in Battlefield BC2/BF3

I don't get the psychology of cheating.

I believe it's usually kids between 13 to 18 of age. There are probably a good amount of silly kids down loading for free and getting caught right off the bat. The ones that last a little longer are from the sites for a fee and they probably take paypay for the under age kids.

I don't think kids that age have a concept of a hard days work and the satisfaction from it.

For the most part punkbuster works well. If you stay on the ranked/pb servers you'll generally be ok. I don't think I've experienced any blatant cheating in the 20 or so hours I've put in so far, but I was on one server where 3 different people were booted for cheating by the anticheat system so it does work, even if not perfectly effective.

You'll never completely stop the the guys who actually know how to create the cheats, but punkbuster can easily deal with the wannabe cheaters who just download various cheats and install them.

IMO, there should be a three strike rule. Three verifiable cheat boots on ranked servers should mean a full account ban.

PBBANS has 750 BF3 cheaters as of this morning.

(BFBC2 is up to 18,394)

I have no idea if what percentage of the cheaters this represents, but it is better than nothing.

There's always going to be cheaters/botters/scripters in whatever game you're playing.

Best thing to do is find a server with good and active admins. Might be a good idea to look on youtube at videos of cheats in action because some people are too quick to accuse at times.

Any way to record a demo in BF3?

I didn't think cheating was all that bad in BF3 until I played a game over lunch today and it was terrible. There were 3 guys on the other team with 10:1 or greater ratios, one was picking people off through walls, the fence in operation firestorm or no scope MP5 headshots from 500+ yards. Would be nice if there was an easy way to report these people...

I dont own the game but a buddy who bought it was raging to me on IM last night about the cheaters, he said it has only got this bad over the last 48 hours and that there must be some new cheat out or something. He said it was super obvious like headshots with pistols at 500+ yards through buildings and other obsticals. He was considering asking for a refund because of it so it must be very very bad cause he is a HUGE BF fan.

I was going to pick it up soon but think i'll wait till it hits steam at under $10 with the amount of bugs and cheating i've been reading about.

I've seen several people obviously cheating and alot of times people in game defend them or don't notice if it's a 64 player map.

I'm actually amazed that the game company doesn't do anything about this. If you search google for BF3 hacks or similar searches, you can find websites where they are dedicated to putting out cheats. Surely EA could have them shut down for putting out a product meant to interfere w\ their game.

The issue is the admin clients aren't quite ready for prime time....we have admins on our server (but only a few at the moment until procon or BF3CC gets up to snuff) so we don't usually have a problem. I think DICE, starting with BC2 in my opinion, has left admin tools up to the community, and so the rollout lags the game by a few weeks. Just as cheats are coming out, I think admins will step up their game.

After playing everyday since its release, I ran into my first obvious cheater in BF3 last night. An aimbotter who killed me the instant I joined and I witnessed him kill 3 of my teammates on my deathcam. I just left and went to another server. Sadly this is just a fact of life for online games.

I have noticed this! I was headshot by an M1014 shotgun from god knows what distance away... after this guy had gone like 23-1 in the first few minutes i promptly left and reported him glo0m69. My 2nd encountered hacker.

I played on a couple of servers last night and they had the punkbuster option set to no. Maybe check the box for the punkbuster option to get "safer" servers.

If you see something like "Admin banned player xyz for cheating" that's just an admin throwing a hissy fit about getting schooled. Once you see something like PB_BAN PLAYER XYZ for MD5tool hack.. you gotch yourself a cheater.

When we can start taking PB screens again that will go a long way. We filtered out a ton of ass-clowns on our 1942 server by going through the screens and noticing the people that had the opposing team on their mini-map, etc.

Possibly sometimes, but before I ban someone I review their stats(KDR, Headshot %, Accuracy % and stats progression.

On BFBC2, we ban probably 1 hacker every other day on our 3 servers. I don't even play BFBC2 anymore, so it's no hissy fit that you would like to believe.

PB will always be playing catch-up to the hackers but you will notice once a week a flood of pb global bans streaming across that chat window.

Stats don't always tell you much. I've seen some legit clanmates with ridiculous KD's that pubs swear are hacking, and they're just really damn good.

I've also ghosted some obvious aimbotters that actually had quite mediocre KD's. To be fair, I've never checked accuracy, but anyone over 26-28% is probably not legit.

Stats can help immensely. KDR might not be best indicator but when looking at their weapon stats, someone with a 33+ headshot % on non-sniper weapons is a clear indicator.

Stat padding is pissing me off till the point i teamkill...

I saw alot of people last night bring out a eod bot one guy would shoot at it and another guy would keep repairing it i saw one guy ramp up 14k just doing this...

Some guy was like how you getting so many points and i said he is stat padding so i saw him start doing it too...

I work hard to make my ranks and watching this just makes me fume .

The 25+ guys with a 20:1 K/R are suspicious but you have to give them the benefit of the doubt that they're just good. The game is too new for me and I don't have the required patience for camping out, sticking with the squad, or knowing where the enemy comes from yet. I always get shot from a sniper miles away cause I run out in a open kill zone, or get blindsided by a guy on my six with my squad just standing there watching and focused in on the rush or conquest marker. I'm obviously missing the strategy for this type of game that I did not figure out yet.

As someone else mentioned above, it's best to filter for servers that have PB set to "on" as well as to play on servers with admins who are active players. I have had good luck so far with no cheaters yet in BF3 but have only played on a handful of different servers. I tend not to venture out much once I've found my top 5 or 7 places though, especially if pings are low and they are always filled.

What this game desperately needs is a way to match players based on their rank and/or skill level. Put all these insanely good 25-1 guys on the same server and let them play against each other. Put the lower rank / lower skilled ppl on another server so they can actually enjoy the game without being fodder. Of course it won't happen because EA doesn't own all the servers.

Does anyone know if this is done in the console versions? I remember this was the case when I played COD on the 360 a couple years back.

As far PB being checked off in the browser, as far as I know that is visual only. All servers are Ranked and all servers run PB whether or not it's turned off in whatever admin tool the server operator is using.

It doesn't help that BF3's hit detection is client side and it's wildly off at times. I've had many instances where some guy will run across my view and I somehow "kill them" even though my aim was obviously off. Plus, their corpse are 15-20ft away from where I stopped firing....

It's almost impossible to tell who's cheating or not with these kinda crap and the general chaos of matches.

I've relagated myself to only playing on 16 player servers. It is far easier to spot the cheaters and I find tempo is better. Oddly enough, my point counts average much higher on these servers because I'm not being sniped from 18 different directions by spawn campers on the "top heavy" servers. I'm hoping some larger maps are coming. Why DICE got rid of the maps that scale based on the amount of players is beyond me...unless maybe I'm missing something?

I went 13-0 last night, until I ran out of ammo, does anyone know how to pick up a kit from someone that you've killed? I don't seem to see a key binding that allows you to do that.

I remember seeing videos of bright blue and red players, and other hacks for BF2, and out of my 2,000 hours of playtime, I maybe ran into them twice. PB eventually finds and stops hacks, until the hackers update them, and the process starts again.

The best tactic is to play on favorite servers with admins - problem solved.

Just don't yell "CHEATER" without proof though. I went 77-0 on Caspian before I got sick of BF3, and my only cheats were the IR scope and 20+ years of camping experience (hate it if you want, but I'll play however I like - and I did help my team win that game by ticking off players who would come looking for me for revenge and forget about the flags).

The problem is that you have to pay to cheat now and each cheat is somewhat unique to each payer. It's also run through a .net framework or something similar so that it is undetected. There are so many cheaters in BF3 that its frustrating. Just hope an admin is there but usually they just say.. i have no proof they could really be legit at 60/1.. yeah right.
