It's kinda funny cause there are no bills from 1934 in circulation in Canada still... Heck, we're even phasing out the 1986 series now.

Now if I could just find a data base of all serial numbers from money taken in Bank Robbery's in the 30-40'S..........

Maybe this could be worth MORE than a uncirculated bill

This was back when money was still backed by gold instead of well....nothing.

Notice the text:

"is redeamable in lawful money at the united states treasury or any federal reserse bank"

and

"Will pay to the bearer on demand twenty dollars"

They are talking about gold however today you will find no such wording.

Actually I got it from the bank a few years back. I thought my old CRACK WHORE room mate had stolen it, because I thought I had stored it with my coin collection and the last time I looked in there it was gone. (I was BUMMED) Then a few days ago I picked up a novel I had started reading a couple of years ago and gotten bored with and guess what! I had placed the $20 in there to press it , and totally forgotten about it. (This still doesn't let the old CRACK WHORE room mate off the hook though, she still pawned a bunch of my stuff that I never got back!! )
I'll NEVER live with a "recovering" drug addict again...........

You realize that by placing a US Federal Reserve note in a scanner that you broke Federal Conterfieting laws? I'm not sure if it's a violation of additional laws to post said scan to the internet.

BTW I'm not joking, the secret service takes this stuff very very seriously.

You may be right...Although black and white scans I believe are ok...But check to be sure.

I would have thought it would have had to have been printed in order for it to be concidered to have been counterfited..

And as you can see from some of the links provided in the thread, there are other scans of US bills out there as well.

Edit: Also, since it was scanned larger than "Life Size" I wouldn't think that it be construed as being an illegal "copy".

Printed reproductions, including photographs of paper currency, checks, bonds, postage stamps, revenue stamps, and securities of the United States and foreign governments (except under the conditions previously listed) are violations of Title 18, Section 474 of the United States Code. Violations are punishable by fines of up to $5,000, or 15 years imprisonment, or both.

I saw a PBS special on counterfieting where they interviewed people that had been arrested for it. It was mentioned specifically that taken a photograph, a scan or any other reproduction of any kind of a Federal Reserve note is against the law. One guy mentioned that simply placing a bill in a scanner with the intent to scan is against the law.

Cool note BTW, it's the year my Mother was born.

Actually, it is perfectly legal to scan currency when done according to the law. If it were not, there would be a whole bunch of dealers doing time.

The Counterfeit Detection Act of 1992, Public Law 102-550, in Section 411 of Title 31 of the Code of Federal Regulations, permits color illustrations of U.S. currency provided:

1. the illustration is of a size less than three-fourths or more than one and one-half, in linear dimension, of each part of the item illustrated;
2. the illustration is one-sided; and
3. all negatives, plates, positives, digitized storage medium, graphic files, magnetic medium, optical storage devices, and any other thing used in the making of the illustration that contain an image of the illustration or any part thereof are destroyed and/or deleted or erased after their final use.

I wouldn't have said anything if the images weren't exactly the size of a the bill and both sides included. Without blowing up or shrinking the size of the scan the question of whether it's legal or not quickly swings to illegal.

I'm pretty sure the US has been off the gold standard since the 19th century. Might be wrong though.

Also consider the fact that it was printed during the depression. Inflation/Lower Prices ++

And finally, consider the fact that it could have been used for one/some/all of the following: used to buy drugs, stolen from a bank, spent by migrant farmers on food, used for hookers and prostitutes during every US Military action from WWII to Desert Storm, picked off of a dead bum, used to snort drugs, used to buy groceries, etc.
