Can anyone point me to some website that have any information regarding the next gen powerbooks.
I've heard speculation that they will have G5's but they need to work out some serious heat issues.

to any people who are against apple, THIS VIDEO ISN'T ABOUT APPLE. It's about how far computer technology has come.

PLEASE CHECK THIS OUT, this is the future

You keep saying that but that's all it's about.

....it's Apple showing off their technology but that's not the point of me posting this video. Let me explain:

I hate apple. I've used both apple and pc's since I was a youngin' in school. I prefer a slow crappy pc to the new g4's and their lcd's.

Some of the technology presented is strongly UNIX based. They give a sweet ass GUI for piping. They have an AMAZING seach feature, it's literally instantaneous.

If you can't see how this effects the computing world as a whole then you are truely missing out. I don't care who is coming up with this technology, but rest assured, it won't be Apple only for very long.

Bingo. Two 30 inch lcd's are the same price as a 70 inch HD tv from Sony

Well that is unfair.

The 30" LCD's run a MUCH higher resolution then the 70" HDTV from Sony. And that is NOT going to fit on your desk.

I'll definately look in to getting a Mac sometime in the future. The OS seems SO MUCH better then Windows. I'm not bothered about my Windows pc crashing as it doesn't much at all. The features do look very nice but how often am I going to use them though?!

Yeah but the IBM doesn't have a good enough response time and it is smaller. 30" and the 4mp res is nice.

I bet you couldn't spot ghosting on it. It's used for medical procedures, and it's important to see clearly for things like that...

I couldn't find the response time on the website. What is it?

I agree but I think most people don't realize how good the quality of the TV is. And at 70 inches, I don't see how you'd be looking at it from too much of an angle so that's probably not much of a problem.

It wasn't the best example but it came to mind

i just wonder how fast the geforce 6800 is running 2 30" lcds. 8million pixels? i wonder if it starts to choke? haha

that spotlight search tech looks great. if its really snappy as itunes search.. i wonder if they do the scans for meta data and stuff when the system is idle, or when the files are put on the system. like where it came up with info that was inside a pdf. winblows search right now is so slow its something u dread using.

I talked with my CS roommate (I'm also in CS) about Spotlight too. We both thought that it must index the information somehow (hell, he said "index" somewhere in there when he was talking about it) so it's just a binary search. Proabably saves the information as soon as the file is created. Probably some sort of linked list so that you don't have to reorder 100k items when you only add one thing. So when you search for two words, it probably checks a few index tables (maybe 10-20?) for each word you have and returns any results with the keywords in it.

Pretty easy to implement, WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG TO COME OUT WITH?! Though, I think XP has a "index this file for later use" option for searches. I never use it though so I have no idea how much it speed things up

i agree with you guys, if mac would get off their asses and port OSX to x86 over from PPC, then i would dump my copy of winxp directly out the 67th story window of the empire state building

dfgopdfgpdfkgl;dkf, no binary search with a linked list. Dunno how it stores that much information then, it takes a long time to reorder lists of 100k for EACH new file. However, perhaps they add a new table for every set of ~1024 (something divisible by 2)
