Check / Rate my Hardware Upgrade

I'm trying to find a good value upgrade for an older computer, I believe it's going on three years now. My current hardware is:

Gigabyte P55A-UD3R
Core i5 750 @ 2.66
GSkill F3 1333 2x2Gb
ASUS Radeon 5850
Seasonic 80+ 650w
Samsung Spinpoint 1tb

My plan to get a decent upgrade involves:

Intel 330 SSD 120Gb $120
WD Green 2Tb SATA $110
Gigabyte Radeon 7950 $340
GSkill / Corsair 1600 Dual Kit 8/16Gb $60-110

That should give me an awesome boost but am I overlooking my CPU and mobo ? I'm not really wanting to spend much more and if I do I might as well build a whole new PC. The only game I play often is Battlefield 3, otherwise it's just a video watching / browsing machine through the home theater.

Thoughts ?

Good build upgrades, but get the Samsung 830 SSD instead.

You mentioned value upgrade, and depending on the resolution you play BF3 at, an HD7870 may be a better choice for you. It provides a higher average FPS compared to the HD7950, runs at the same power requirements, and also costs $60 less (after MIR and shipping). GIGABYTE GV-R787OC-2GD Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition

After oc 7950 will be faster no doubt I guess. However with that CPU anything more than 7850 or 7870 won't help to the fullest, especially not in bf3.

That's what I was afraid of, but I guess the plan is to get a bit more life out of this rig before I upgrade the mobo / CPU next, so it won't be wasted in the long run.

I've never done it before but looking into OC'ing to get a little more out of it as well, looks like a lot of people agree this CPU is good for it.

The i5 750 is indeed a good overclocker. Even with a moderate cooling like the Hyper 212+, you should be able to push it to 3.4GHz or so. That'll give you a nice pairing with a 7870.

A 3.4 750 is close to a stock 920/870
