LOL, no.

I haven't messed with it for over a year and I leave the side of the case off 99% of the time. Plus the fan is 80CFM so it draws a lot of air from this dusty old house.

The P4 cpu coming off with the heatsink has happened to me before as well, kinda sucks if you ask me. Makes we kinda nervous everytime I remove the HSF. Never happened to me with larger Socket7 or Athlons. Is this an issue with the smaller A64's as well? Either way, I hope that the newer sockets address this somehow.

oh yeah, air-duster is your friend

The problem comes from the heatspreader giving so much surface area for the paste to create a vacuum.

That makes a lot of sense. So, the careful twist and wiggle approach I have adpoted serves to break the vacuum. It seems like this could easily be solved by the heatspreader having a small groove or channel in it, but I guess this isn't a problem if you go with the stock thermal pad.

It does, in fact. I've seen P4 pins destroyed from being ripped out of the socket when removing the stock cooler with the stock pad. It's just a bad design. Increased surface area with sticky pad = CPU ripped out of socket = broken pins.

That photo demonstrates why I have always thought that Intel is the better product for the "average" computer user. The heat sink can be full of junk or the fan can stop running and the processor is fine. An AMD might burn the house down. Most people never open their computer in the five or more years they use the machine. The current generation of Intel and AMD CPUs are both potential disasters for the cat lover R

That's probably why Dell uses Intel.

Apparently the owner lived out on an unpaved road. Seems there's a fair bit of red dirt out there and it gets kicked up in to a fine dust that gets in to everything. There was red dust and mud all over her truck's tires and such, and it was on her shoes too. I asked her if she left her windows open all day or something but she said no.

Took a lot of work to get that computer clean again.

Infestation? I think they set up a colony and a breeding facility there. Generations later, it came to be known as Heaven. The RAM was the living area, the videocard was Hell. Don't ask how I know, I just know.
