No thanks. I would never do one of those skanks.

confirmed!

either OP is a bandcamp geek who got turned down and laughed at, or OP is a ugly chick who got laughed at when she showed up for tryouts.

Or, OP is in college, in summer school, and couldn't get any from a high-school junior.

what about me? i agree with the OP.

and i did not try out for cheerleading because it wasn't even a consideration. i had year round legitimate sports going on.

Employment, as other posters pointed out, isn't even that much of a benefit for "real" sports.

But just about any other sport isn't a huge waste the way cheerleading is. When are you EVER going to "cheerlead" other than in high school/college if you don't end up doing it professionally? Never. Families don't get together and "cheerlead" for fun.

Any other sport, even if you don't do it professionally, chances are you will end up playing that sport again later in life. Maybe you play basketball with some friends in the neighborhood, maybe you play baseball on an adults team for fun and exercise, maybe you play volleyball with family a couple times a year. Even if it's not leading to a job it's still a useful thing to know just so you can interact and participate in games with friends and family.

Chiropteran, I'll go ahead an disagree with both of your posts.

1. I received college scholarships for cheerleading.
2. I get together with past / current cheerleaders several times a year to throw the girls around. Many times this is with my family (wife). Actually we are having a beach get together in a couple of weekends.
3. Have one several bars bets relating to a 205lb man performing a drunken backflip.

The whole idea of cheerleaders is stupid. How often have you cheered at a game because of something the cheerLEADERS did?

At a UT game, always. They lead the TEXAS-FIGHT chant. They lead the back-flipping point counting. They lead DE-FENSE. Are they required? No. But it sounds much better when we are chanting together.

False. It is fun, recreational, and entertaining for those involved. Lots of dance instructors were cheerleaders in high school and college.

What about all the guys that play for your favorite college football team? A small, small fraction of the players are drafted. Why play football in college if you are 2nd string with 0.001% chance of hitting the NFL? Why risk the injury?

BECAUSE THEY LOVE THE FUCKING GAME. CHEERLEADERS LOVE THE CROWD.

Dance is an art, gymnastics is an artistic sport, cheerleading is a plebeian T&A show.

Thank goodness for that!

Cheerleading in simply sexual objectification of women. And women who make being sexually objectified their hobby and outlet are usually weak, dull, and boring.

Almost all the girls cheerleading in highschool were pretty dumb, not to mention giant sluts. Of course two of them got pregnant and the rest went to LSU (or some crappier school if they couldn't even make it into LSU, which actually happened) to get shitfaced all the time, sleep with lots of guys, and drop out (most of them are failing/dropped out).

There one was exception. She was personable, not retarded, and showed ambition. She ended up winning student of the year senior year. She was the fat one, of course.

Not to mention that cheerleading is pretty dangerous. A lot of the coaches are just moms who don't really have the knowledge to be a cheerleading coach, leading to lots of injuries. This one girl had to use crutches for most of senior year, which was funny.

That said, if my daughter wanted to be a cheerleader, I wouldn't deny her that. I may be disappointed deep inside, but I would do my best not to show it and to support her.

My girlfriend was the head cheerleader in high school at an all-girls school and she is probably the most normal girl I've ever met in my life. She isn't fucking obnoxious nor is she a whore. And she's in shape.

Hemingway said, ?Auto racing, bull fighting, and mountain climbing are the only real sports ... all others are games.?

Summary, anything you can do for entertainment where you can die in a gross and obvious fashion is a sport. Cheerleading is close, but there is not that much of a chance of blood and guts spread out over a large area to make it. Big wave surfing is closer. But cheerleading is closer to sport than football (with pads). While you may think of all of those different angles of bones breaking, no guts...

PS - Rec League football with cheerleading is the most underrated place for you single folks to meet newly single hot moms/dads.

Many larger high schools have male cheerleaders (if you are assuming there are none - if not, pardon my interuption).

As for sports and "competition", many of you have never been to a cheerleading competition to see what it's about (at either the high school or college (amazing stuff) level).

Has some guy friends in HS that were on the cheerleading team for basketball season but then played football in the fall. I used to workout with these guys and they got me started in partner stunting. I also ran track and was on the power lifting team during the school year. Played basketball and football during JR. high but wasn't interested in continuing into HS.

One of my proudest moments was attending a state power lifting competition my Junior year. As every other guy there wore a football / wrestling H.S. T shirt I sat proudly with my multi-color bubbly letter cheerleading T shirt on. In my weight class (155lbs - 165lbs) I took home the first place trophy for my bench press (320lbs) and 4th place for combined bench and dead lift. I would guess there were about 80 other from across the state in my weight class competing.

One of my most interesting experiences happened that same year attending a highschool cheerleading camp with roughly 15-20 guys and 300ish girls.

btw: There is really not a difference between cheerleading and male cheerleading. Nobody calls a guy who plays basketball a "male basketball player".

i was going to post something meaningful in here

(more than just this)
SPORT- an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

but then there was way too much crap to read and i decided i didnt want to read it all and im watching Shark Week stuff on Discovery

oh, i was also a high school cheerleader. I used to think i hated cheerleaders because of the stereotyping but when i actually tried out and made the team, my opinion was drastically changed and cheerleading is incredibly difficult. Competitive cheerleading is even harder.
By the definition of Sport, it clearly is one.... i mean come on, Fishing is a sport? lol
