What is the cheapest cheese. (bulk, non-processed)

Weight to price wise..^_^

Chedder and Mozzarella are the cheap ones here. ~$7.50 for an "eight-cup-equivalent" (it's either one or two pounds...can't say for sure without going to the grocery store) bag of grated cheese. Everything else is more expensive.

It seems like I should be able to buy cheese in bricks for cheaper and grate it myself, but that isn't the case.

The equation changes completely when quality (taste) is brought in...

I'm trying to gain weight again (without bread:$) So can %fat be in the equation? how would it change?

No idea...I don't read my labels that closely (and I don't have any cheese in the fridge right now). A google search ought to give you a good idea, though.

If I was bent on gaining weight through dairy, I'd just switch milk for heavy cream

Mozzerella is going to be one of the cheaper cheeses because it typically doesn't have much for ingredients (raw milk, citric acid, rennet) and doesn't have to age. It can be made in relatively large quanities fairly quickly....since it's not processed much or aged (ie. dried out) it has a low melting point. Aged cheeses made from more exotic animals, ie...sheep's milk, goat's milk, water buffalo milk, rat milk, rosie o'donnell milk all cost a little more.

I don't know about your weight gain, price, cheese conundrum, but I'm fat and I know I like a sharp cheddar.
