Red is in Canada so rules are likely different.

Under Canadian law, as under U.S. law, when the mineral estate is severed from the surface estate, the mineral estate is almost always treated as the dominant estate and mining use trumps surface use. Only if the patent/deed specifies that the surface rights come first would this not be true.
That's just common law. If other law exists, then it takes back seat.

Not quite like that lol. It's on 40 acres of wooded land totally off the grid, that he is going to have to completely mold and create a place not only capable of sustaining his life, including much of his food, but a nice and comfortable life.

So he will have to work on plumbing, electric, leveling land, finding the most arable areas, probably build greenhouses due to the climate, then keep those going. Literally everything. From some of his musings it's not looking good already. Since it doesn't seem that he is going to pay too many people to do this for him, which would be really pricey, but tackle it a lot himself. This needs to be on YouTube
I believe his exact words were "easygoing, stress free life", I think that was when I lost it and guffawed.

It's only work if you don't like it.

That's true, I think. "Work" is by definition something you'd really rather not do and only do so because you absolutely have to in order to live. If you enjoy the activity it isn't work.

He'll figure it out, or he won't. The only failure is not trying. He might be awesome at taking care of himself. Or maybe he'll decide it kinda sucks, but he'll still have a nice piece of land to play with. I don't see any way to really lose hard in this endeavor.

Apparently you haven't been reading the same posts most of the rest of us have been reading. Oh well.

I don't think anyone has ever had issue with someone buying land at all btw. It's just all the rest of it that's gonna be a hoot.

I enjoy climbing mountains, but it's still a lot of work to get up there. So, I definitely don't agree with this assessment at all. Just because I'm enjoying the work doesn't transform it into a leisure activity.

The technical definition of work is an application of force. So, getting your ass out of bed in the morning meets the standard of "work". Most sensible people define work as something you have to be paid to do, cause otherwise, you'd be doing something fun like climbing mountains, which *is* a leisure activity, since you're doing it cause you want to. You're not only *not* getting paid, you had to spend money to climb mountains.

Pretty much. Worse case scenario this just turns into a camp and I never do move there. That's basically the initial goal anyway, make it into a camping spot, and just keep improving it until I can have everything working year round. This could take many years, especially because everything is so expensive now like building materials etc. But long term if I do move there I will save a lot of money. I could probably even live off the interest from money I get from selling the house. By the time I am actually ready to sell I'll probably be able to get like half a million for the house.

Some people enjoy "yardwork", does it then become "yardleisure"? No, because it's still work, even if they enjoy it.
It's not leisure because it's work, leisure is something relaxing. I don't sweat my arse off when I'm relaxing.

Squirrel is tired of paying for road, police, water, electricity, sewage and garbage collection.

Pretty much. I think there are some people who can truly live off grid and I'm completely happy for them. If they do it all themselves either they live pretty rough, or they are a super rare exception that has so much knowledge in construction and the land and they have resources so they can do it all themselves with some help. Or they are someone who has the money to pay a bunch of people to make a lot of it happen for them.

I don't see any of those scenarios here.

To be fair...isolation does mean less necessity for police, who are part of an innately corrupt system.

He can't escape septage though.

This is the same guy who also talked about just writing his own CAD program too, despite a lack of knowledge in coding and maths that would be associated with such a task.

Is Pokemon Go still a thing? Put some juicy bonus on (inside) his shack, then leaves clues to it on some big gamer's forums.

Use a drone. The video footage will look like that of an untouched amazon tribe. Just hope he hasn't acquired a compound bow.
