Looking for a new keyboard.

I tried a Logitech G710+ buy it came with the backspace key pre-broken. Broken keycaps seem to be an issue with this board.

Im looking at the Corsair K70 but it is a little spendy. I do want backlight, audio controls and a 10-key pad.

I looked at the Gigabyte Aivia Osmium but that also seems to have some QC issues.

Any other products folks can suggest?

TIA,
Bod

I have a Ducky Shine 3. It's from a Taiwanese company and very respectable in the mechanical keyboard world.

deskthority, geekhack, and just google "mechanical keyboard".

that "out of stock" issue .. get used to it. thats the way with mechanicals.

oh btw, coolermaster makes some pretty decent keyboards; it all depends on your budget, really.

Yes, for that one set. Got to be careful.

Guess who got a standard size set from SP and found out the hard way that they are off by a hair on the spacebar? :$

IMO, the Ducky KBs have, at the least, far better feel, and much better stock key caps, than Logitech (iOne?), on top of being able to disable NKRO, if needed. If the linked store has any colors you'd go for of Browns, you won't be sorry, assuming their implementation of multimedia keys is suitable (that's something I don't use).

CM's Quickfire series also have multimedia shortcuts, integrated into the F-row. Their OEMs vary, but they aren't bad at all, either. They also tend to be in stock a lot more often, being made in larger/longer runs...

I was looking for a backlit board a while ago and settled on a CM Trigger Z. No complaints after 6 months.

I picked up a Coolermaster Quickfire XT with the browns and I really like it. I know it's not backlit, but their Quickfire TK appears to be very similar with backlighting. The only complaint I have is the laser etching on the keys was overfilled with paint and it feels odd, but I got used to it (On a backlit keyboard I doubt that would be an issue).

I've been considering getting a new set of keycaps, but the price doesn't seem worth it for a $89 keyboard.

Is it true that the Rosewell RK-9100xRBR, the Max Keyboard Nighthawk X9, and the Tesoro Durandal Ultimate G1NL are all the same keyboard electrically?

Some of the reviews of the RK-9100xRBR complained about cheap keycaps as well. I really would be happy with G710+ that did not break. The Rosewell is $109 on Amazon. The Durandal is OOS but $99 at ErgoGeek.

It's quite possible they're the same basic keyboard. Most of these companies are specifying, not making. The keyboards are developed in part by the company selling them, and are built to their spec for a certain price. CM uses several OEMs, and I'm not sure which one is the same as the Rosewills, but I know one of them is, for sure. Even so, that may make them electronically almost the same, but half the reason for a mech is the mechanical aspect.

If the company branding and supporting the final product specifies, say, keycaps that are thinner, or of a different plastic type, to save some pennies, and they don't last as long as another brand who's keyboard is coming off the same line, then how much does that electronic equivalence matter?

If you want a volume knob/wheel, your selection is exceptionally limited. If you want to avoid QC/design issues, spendy is where it's at, with a Das ($150+ for a Das 4 Professional).

I feel ya. But, then, I took a chance for some ABS DS DSA caps. Now I'm waiting on a mess of SA caps . If they are as good as I hope, I might finally retire my Model M (might, not necessary will).

So I'm on my 4th Mech Keyboard now. I have Cherry Clears, MX Browns, MX Blues, and MX Red's.

I have a Déck Keyboard, (Clears), MaxKeyboard Night Hawk Blue's, and Corsair Vengeance K95 (returned) and K95 RGB.

To my tastes, I realized I think I like browns the most. One thing for certain is that the K95, I realize that I like how the buttons feel and sound towards the top 'Qwerty' section, but just 'meh' on the rest. However, on the Rosewill Browns, I do like how they feel and type. So different keyboards have different characteristics.

I'm very happy with my second G710+ with the browns w/ rings. I like it even better than my Alps which feels like a model M. I'm fairly sure there has been a engineering change in the logitech. I pulled about 20 caps and all are solid.

Did you buy another 710+ keyboard?

Yes I did. They went on sale for $99 last week so I decided to give it a another shot. I bought my first one from Amazon Prime but it was fulfilled by a third party. The latest one I got directly from NewEgg so I prob. got newer stock.
