Kimbark Liquors (Kimbark plaza, on the south side, at 53rd and kimbark)

Pabst or Stroh's $13 for 30 cans. Was 10.99, might go up some more.

Sam's wines (North and Clybourn, not sure exact address)

Triple Sec - 1 liter for $4.49. (Montezuma, i think, or something like that)
Puccino Coffee Liquor - 750ml for $2.99
Random wines / champaignes - $2.99-$7.99 (clearance section, pretty good ones in there)

The last three deals are pretty normal for sam's, the beer deal is temporary and their prices change a lot. Still, works out to 50 cents a beer after tax, which isn't bad for a better than crappy beer. Must be 21, or ymmv

Enjoy.

Dave.

Nope...this isn't the first time i've posted an alcohol deal, either. Wish more people would, though.

As a recovering alcoholic, 15 months sober, I can tell you that those beers are crap. If you're going to drink, drink class. Yuengling is the best.

As Frank would say, "Yuengling? Eff that Stuff, Pabst Blue Ribbon!)
Heh, as a non recovering drinker, I have to say that Sams wines is a great place in Chicago to buy your spirits. Their average price is generally below what is advertised in jewel's or Dominicks. Its especially fun when theyre doing taste testing in the store!

wow, pabst's is a better than crappy beer? i think blue ribbon is about a hairbreadth ahead of keystone and natural light, and those beers are the dregs.

Ok, buy, let me define my alcohol standards.

Crappy beer = 40.

Pabst = above crappy.

Stroh's = slightly, only slightly better than pabst.

Guinness / Harp = real beer.

Australian beers = good beer to knock yourself out on.

Belgian beers = (personal favorite: Leffe) incredible beers...complex, like a good wine.

Indian beers = (personal favorite: Kingfisher strong) nostalgic, strong, better than Stroh's, not better than Guinness for sure.

Pabst and Stroh's are above average, because average in a college neighbourhood (hyde park, in my case) is Bud and the other crappiest of the crappy, mixed in with the occasional 40.

everyone is entitled to their opinion I guess... PBR and stroh's are like Beast and Scheaffer to me. I only drink a beer a month and it seems to be an import everytime. If you are looking to get drunk and Pee ALOT can't beat 30 Beers!

i can vouch to the quality of kimbark: half the time they don't bother with IDs and when you drop by Harold's chicken shack (the fried chicken king!) you have yourself a meal and a half.

I'm over 21, and i've looked it since before i came to Chicago, so i wouldn't know, though from what i've heard chicago is a stricter city than most for carding.

My post was more aimed at the cheap prices on booze than making it accessible to the underage...

Agreed. Wayyyyy back when I was a minor my Dad always had pabst and stroh's in the fridge but even though it was accessible I never could finish a single can.

mad dog, now that you mention it, is about $5.50 for a 12 pack (bottles, not cans) at Osco. YMMV, since i can only confirm that price for the Osco on 53rd. Prefer Stroh's. It's definitely not upper crust, but it's heaven compared to a Colt 45, and given how pricey 40's are in chicago most of the time, this might work out to be a comparable price.

I also think these beers are better than the bud you get on tap at 50 cent beer nights...

Man, I still have a can of PBR in my fridge that won't get drank unless I am desperate. I think that Strohs is ok, (after all it is fire brewed) but PBR is, to put it nicely, sub-par. You'll notice that the can says established in 1844 or something like that. It tastes like the cans have been sitting around for that long. And whoever mentioned Mad Dog needs a 12 step program. That stuff is butt nasty. Orange Jubilee is the worst. It took 3 seasoned binge drinkers a half hour and many a grimmaced face to choke a bottle of that crap down. Anyway, to each his own I guess. I must admit that I have sunk to pretty low levels of taste during my college days and drank whatever piss water was on sale so maybe this could be a good deal for some poor aspiring alcoholics. Bottoms up!

I agreed with the above statement. If you are going to drink at least drink the good stuff. Spend the extra $2 a case and get some decent beer/liquor. Although I can remember drinking $.79 Laser 40 ouncers in high school. That stuff was NASTY!
