And I am stuck working from home today because I am flooded in. Both roads exiting my subdivision are flooded. One of them is a bridge too.
Only downside is my wife and child are stuck at home too...the house is progressively getting smaller by the minute.

I'll have to get outside to take some pictures.

Oh and they are calling for an additional 1-2 inches of rain today with even more tonight.

I have a friend working in Chicago. He can't even leave his hotel to get to the construction site.

I had 3 out of 4 routes in to work shut down today getting into work around Peoria. Most low area state roads are flooded over and a creek that's normally knee deep is about 30' high and scraping the bottom of I-74 in one spot. I don't know how long that is going to keep open if the rain keeps up. Some of the low areas are nothing more than lakes at this point.

Just a note to say stay safe.

When I was younger, I lived in a house on a bluff that overlooked the Illinois River just north of Peoria. (Between Grand View drive and Gardner Lane.)

River flooding is no joke.

Seems a bit early in the year for it though...

Anyway, best of luck to each of you.

So far the Illinois river has stayed put, but sometimes that takes days for it to fully crest as the runnoff further north makes it way down. Right now it's runnoff from the fields and just the low laying areas that are causing hell for everyone. One of the gas stations I drive by daily had water halfway up the pumps. And that's on a fairly flat area. You could tell at one point during heavier rains the road there was completely covered due to the amount of debris on it. I'll be more worried about the IL river valley in a day or two that just seems to be how that works.

Someone was adventurous. They stalled out. Eventually a few people came and pushed the car out because the water level is only going to rise.
This is exactly why you don't attempt to drive through flooded roads.

Question - will the auto insurance cover damage on the vehicle due to the drivers negligence? I have a property and casualty insurance license, but I don't deal with auto so I have no idea (yet I am licensed to sell it....).

The best part is that after he stalled out about 5 minutes later a large hummer went plowing through the water. Huge waves which went up to the door handles on the stalled car. The inside has to be wet.

Insurance covers stupidity so yes, it should be covered. Wish we had some of that moisture down here in Kansas. Sure, its raining now, but we are 10s of inches behind schedule for water and many of our reservoirs/creeks are all but dried up.

yes insurance covers idiotic people. My ex SIL did something like this years ago the water was nearly up to the windows. the car had to be totaled.

I asked her why she drove through it knowing it was deep. She said friend made it. i laughed and called her a idiot. her friend had a huge 4x4 that was jacked up. Well no shit it made it. the damn thing sits 4 foot higher then your fucking car you dipshit.

Being stuck in your home with your love-ones while tragic is kinda funny when you think about it.
Also I love how people who live in Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan describe where they live the "Chicago Area."

I'm 30 miles southwest of the loop in Naperville which has the 2 busiest metra rail stops for commuters on the network, so I consider myself Chicago area.
Only a 30 minute train ride if I am on an express.

In my neck of the woods (near Andersonville), it was a bit damp with some large puddles here and there. I had no clue it was all that bad until looking at photos on the Chicago Tribune website.

http://galleries.apps.chicagotribune.com/chi-130417-chicago-spring-flood-weather-pictures/

There's an underpass I drive by regularly on an interstate that had to have 9 or 10 feet of standing water--the bridge clearance sign said 14.x feet and there was maybe 4-5 feet of clearance above the water (see the Pratt Avenue photo in the link above). Crazy.
