i like how in the article, the cubs describe his as a cross between two other japanese players. gee, thanks!

Always risky signing a big contract to a player who hasn't played one game in the majors especially when that player is coming off an injury. Fuku is supposedly pretty darn good but so was Hideki Matsui and he never replicated his Japanese numbers (though he had one great year). I read somewhere that he'll more of an Aaron Rowand type of player which isn't so bad.
I'm interested in seeing how Fukudome fares especially at Wrigley which is no easy task for any fielder.

fuck him. actually i cant really fault him as my team cant afford to get into a bidding war with a top 10 media market team, but i guess us making the second biggest contract offer in franchise history wasnt enough for him. i was just hoping with the fact that we've been scouting him since high school and a ringing endorsement from outska would be enough for him to ignore a few million dollars more a year and come over here.
im frustrated more than anything. our outfield has so many holes right now and he would've been a nice addition both with his glove and bat, which we also desperately need. now it looks like were going to be settling with some end-of-the-career vet and pray for a breakout year. but its cool, no hard feelings towards the cubs. especially since we're looking at prior and tomorrow could possibly be deal day.
edit: daaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
i agree. not to mention it looks like we may give antonelli a shot at second also. they think he's ready for the show and he's one of our best prospects. b. giles is in his last year and so we'll have another outfield hole again next year. but giles, despite his great obp, wasnt the power bat we had originally hoped for when we locked him up. add to the fact that his speed isnt the greatest but i guess something is better than nothing. it appears now we are going to try cameron again (who wont be around the first month) and/or geoff jenkins. lovely.Originally posted by: rockyct
Let's see, the Padres have Brian Giles, and uhh....Scott Hairston? Oh crap, we're screwed. Well, at least they locked up Peavy until 2012 with a club option for 2013. The Wolf signing could be a good move as well and I don't know if Iguchi will make much of an impact, but anyone is better than M. Giles.
