Chicken nuggets are now going to be processed in China.
American chickens will be sent to China to be processed and then sent back to the US for consumption and you will never know since there is no USDA requirement to state what happened.

Sad that it is cheaper to send food across the pacific twice than it is to process here in the states.

...no USDA inspectors will be present in the Chinese processing plants (despite the fact that China has never before been allowed to export chicken to the U.S.), thus offering consumers no guarantees where the processed chickens were in fact slaughtered. Even worse, because the birds will be processed, the USDA will not require point-of-origin labeling (under USDA rules, foods that have been cooked aren't subject to point-of-origin labeling). In other words: Consumers will have no way to tell if those chicken nuggets in the supermarket freezer were processed in the U.S. or in China.

um.. why ship chickens to china?!
there are no chickens in china for McD to buy??

A friend of mine grows broccoli, he used to sell to a frozen food company about 30 minutes away, now they buy Chinese broccoli, freeze it and have it shipped to the factory and bagged. They make more money shipping the product half way around the world than to buy locally.

Your argument is pretty terrible. Just because X is worse, doesn't mean we can't take action to improve Y.

Actually I think his argument is fine. Its sort of like there are wild fires raging all around and the fire fighters decided to fight a kitchen fire somewhere instead. And now the kitchen fire is out and they're installing new smoke detectors and redoing the wiring to avoid dealing with the wild fire.

The auto fleet has already had a lot of work done on it with regards to emissions. The bang for the buck is no longer there. The cargo ships with no emission controls are the low hanging fruit no one wants to pick for political reasons. There aren't any "world" emission standards so we pretend nothing can be done. But that doesn't mean nothing could be done. Ban any ships from docking that aren't up to snuff on emissions tests and watch how quick they fall in line (while bitching). They bitched about smog filled Californian ports requiring them to run the ship off of electric instead of belching that shit into the air the whole time they were in port, but they still did it.

I don't have a problem will increasing emission standards but its pissing on a bonfire if you don't go after the big polluters first.

So they can stamp "Made from USA chickens" on the box and then consumers will buy them (and probably pay more for them) foolishly assuming they were processed in a country with regulations on food safety by a company that they could sue if they became sickened by the product.

Watch out for other items that are "Made in China" currently such as spices (Tones brand). I will not buy any medicine, food or related items, or healthcare items from China. They have so many issues with quality control such as tainted milk, faked rice, dirty meat (then being cleaned with chemicals), explosive watermelons, and so on.

Google "china polllution pictures" and see for yourselves.

Now fortified with heavy metals and alpha particles! China has 32 nuclear power plants under construction. Gotta send the waste somewhere.

Chicken Nuggets, not McNuggets. McDonalds wasn't even mentioned in the article.

How soon will this go into effect? My family and I will stop eating any sort of chicken nuggets. Maybe Chick-fil-a or Zaxby's will advertise they use US processed chicken so people like me can vote with our wallet. I'm willing to pay extra to eat US processed food. I will not eat knowingly eat any food from China. One of the reason I shop at Trader Joe's is because they don't carry any food products from China.

I can't say for sure but I don't believe that. Many items that we assume to be from the US are actually coming from China and many, many foods contain ingredients from China which don't have to be listed on the label.

In fact, much of the honey sold, even labeled as from the US, is actually from China. If I recall correctly a recent survey indicated far more than half the labeled as US honey is probably Chinese honey.

Your argument is pretty terrible. Just because X is worse, doesn't mean we can't take action to improve Y.

So why not force companies and corps to clean up their pollution? If you were to force them to pay penalties on pollution that each ship generate you would quickly find them scrambling back to US.

But you see, they don't give a shit for pollution.....they care about PROFITS (or Government and Business) so they turn blind eye to REAL problem at hand (which is ship pollution).

Environment MY ASS

And I won't even get into how much pollution America puts out INDIRECTLY in China....

So this is how we die?

As of December 2012, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reported that it had received reports of 501 dog deaths (and thousands of dog sicknesses), many seemingly from chicken jerky treats manufactured in China, dating back to 2007.

Can't use nukes, can't do direct war due to economics. Will slow death by food poisoning become the new WWIII? :hmm:

On the plus side maybe small farms will make a comeback. I'd be willing to pay for real beef, chicken, fresh veggies, etc.. and cut out the middleman to assure that I'm getting real food instead of filler goop they're trying to push on us.

Don't blame the low wage workers. Blame the lawmakers, politicians, and rich CEOs.

BINGO. Nothing more but killing out middle class jobs and now starting on the lower class jobs too. As I said in the P&N thread, one of these days the corporations are going to wake up and ask where the consumers went. The government isn't smart enough to figure out where 47% of the taxpayers went yet.

(hint: their wages dropped like a rock and fell below the taxation line because of good paying jobs being set out of this country).

I will lobby Rand Paul and my other reps to stop this or to at least force a Point of Origin to be placed on EVERYTHING imported into this country, including food.
