Hi,

I have seens some pictures online of the Dragon Chieftec cases and they seem to have purple fan holders?! Are those plastic? What I would like to know if they help against vibration or not (perhaps make it worse?!).

Edit: please go down this page to my last posting to understand my question better. I know those purple things are fan holders, I just want to know if they help against vibrations or just make them worse compared to other cases?!..

Is the idea that they should help against fan vibrations or isn't that there purpose? Are they plastic? Are they convenient to use? Do they have any drawbacks?

i think you answered your own question. the purple fan holders are...fan holders!:Q

Yeah and IMO they cause more vibrations... Also does anyone know what the purple thing on the bottom of most chieftec cases that has about 5 holes does? I think it might have something to do with connecting molex wires but I can't figure out how to use it.

mostly its there so u don't have to screw anything. snap in, done. you sttill have to route fan wires behind cages etc to hide.

the plastic bit at the bottom is for full length pci cards.

Hi,

I mainly wanted to know if those fan holders (are they plastic by the way?) help against fan vibrations or not, or that they make them even worse?! I believe there are companies that sell things to put around a fan to stop vibrations and I was thinking if those fan holders in Chieftec cases are perhaps the same thing? That's my main question!

Thanks in advance for all good feedback!!

Mike.

no worse then any standard mounting technique. i use low rpm fans and they sound pretty quiet. no worse, no better. no its not made of funky rubber.

The fan holders are plastic and they can definitely make fan vibrations worse. Due to manufacturing tolerances, many fans fit a bit loose under the clips. Over they years I've used cut up pieces of cable ties to wedge the fans tighter against those clips.

All I can suggest is to try the fans you want to use and see if they'll mount tightly under the clips. If they don't I suggest that you either wedge them in there tighter, or scrap the fan holders altogether and mount the fans to the case in the traditional manner (you will have to drill new fan mounting holes to do this though).

Those same clips can be found in Antec cases and I have no idea if they make the fans louder. All I know is that I have 7 80mm fans and my case is extremely loud.

If it is the piece by the front drive bays, then it is for long PCI card support. Atleast that is what the part is listed as in the manual for the Antec PlusView 1000AMG.

To the original question, my Cooler Master fans fit the clips quite well. Not too sure if it creates more vibration in the case, most likely there is little effect as the clips are light weight. Also, I was considering a rubber vibration isolator between the fan and the clip, but I do not think there is enough room.
