Seriously?

Jap is short for Japanese. It's commonly used when describing electronics or items that are made in Japan as opposed to Taiwan or China due to the fact that Japanese goods are of much higher quality. So yeah, its normal to qualify something as JAP in front of the item to differentiate it. beloved patriot isn't short for anything. They aren't chinkenese people.

Jap used to have negative meaning especially right after WWII when the servicemen used the term in a derogative manner, however, much like the term "ricer" once meant someone who simply drove an import now means someone who modifies a foreign car, it has changed over time to simply describe someone or something as from Japan. The negativity once associated with the word has fallen off.

No it hasn't. Please use it out in public and let us know.

The comment in the Liveleak video states that his hand was crushed because he bumped into an old lady while walking down the sidewalk. Watching this made me want to kick that guy's ass. (The guy who was kicking the kid in the head.)

When I used to used to say "Jap version" because I'd never heard the word and never knew it was offensive, I still never referred to Japanese people as "Japs."

It was always something like: "Which version did you play? US or Jap?"

what i'm saying is that nationalities such as 'chinese' and 'japanese' don't have a noun to describe their people (in our language). you know, like, american, canadian, mexican...or say, frenchman, englishman.

they get left with chinaman and jap. not my fault.

Holy sh**. WTF is wrong with you? "Chinese" or "Japanese" IS the word we use to describe people's nationality. "Chinaman" and "Jap" are obviously considered derogatory.

I edited my post to more clearly portray what I'm trying to say. I have a couple Honda QA50 bikes. I was on a message board looking for an engine and the conversation was more like "Get a jap engine for that bike instead of one of those cheap chinese clones."

In that context, I see nothing wrong with using the word jap. its just a shortened version of the word japanese, which is the same as the poster talking about the cartridge was saying.

Yes it is. Climb out of that hole you are living in.

Sorry, but you are completely and absolutely wrong on this issue.

Jap is an English abbreviation of the word "Japanese." Today it is generally regarded as an ethnic slur, although English-speaking countries differ in the degree to which they consider the term offensive. In the United States, Japanese Americans have come to find the term controversial or offensive, even when used as an abbreviation.[1] In the past, Jap was not considered primarily offensive; however, during and after the events of World War II, the term became derogatory.[2]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jap#cite_note-Fussell-1
In the United States the term is now considered derogatory; the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary notes it is "usually disparaging".[5] In the United Kingdom it is considered derogatory, and the Oxford dictionary defines it as offensive.[6]

Clearly the word is considered derogatory - many people in this thread consider it so, therefore you never know who you're talking to in public that might ALSO consider it so. Best course of action is to avoid use.

This seems like a no-brainer to me. Are you seriously still arguing about it?

This is in China. Kid looks to be one of the minorities from the west, which probably didn't help when surrounded by angry Hans. The situation is similar to America's Old Far West (Hans don't regard the natives very highly). That beatdown is relatively minor; the worst will come from his master.

same here. like 'jew'.

what are you supposed to say? "a japanese?" if they can't conjugate their nationality in a way where i don't have to put 'person' on the end, fuck them, it's getting shortened.

Japanese is easier to say than Nihonjin for most. And it doesn't require "person" at the end because that is implied.

This is vigilantiism at its worse. This child may have actually just bumped into an old lady, running past. Or he may have been a child pick pocket. If as others have suggested he was from some transient population (gypsie/romer), he may be a child professional thief. Point is it just isnt appropriate to enact punishment without proper proceedure. And the idea of breaking the hands of a thief are barbaric. His different ethnicity probably enacted strong predjudices in the spectators. However to watch, corporal punishment that may cause permanent deformity is just not within our tolerance. Unfortunately, in much of the world that is not the case.

OK here is the real story the kid is a Uyghur he bumped into an old lady and since there are thives of his background in the region the crowd turned on him. He didn't rob anybody or at leas didn't have anybody's wallet or anything when they took him into the Police station. The old lady is heard in the video “ He's just a kid” “ etc.
Han Chinese are not very tolerant of the minorities living in China and they are looked down on, so the people kicked him “like a dog” :'(
