If someone had explained the premise to me, I probably would have laughed. It just doesn't sound like it could make a good movie. The trailer looks ok, though, and rottentomatoes seems to love it. I'll be seeing it.

Very depressing movie. I think City of God is the only movie more depressing that I've seen. Interesting story and premise. I don't think I'd watch it again though.

City of God, depressing?? Granted it takes place in a Brazilian hood outside of one of the most beautiful places in the world where there is a lot of poverty and drugs, but a movie like The Pianist is 10x more 'depressing' then City of God is too me, both are excellent movies though.

I thought the movie was hopeful. It is about one man's turn from apathy and hopelessness towards sacrifice and hope. It doesn't really flesh out the whole "mankind cant have babies" storyline, so if you are expecting that you will be disappointed. It focuses on the individuals, and does a good job at that.

I will say that it is hands down, the best directed movie of the year. No question.

Have you seen Letters from Iwo Jima?

I have not. There is a wonderful 4 minute shot and another 8 minute shot in Children of Men. Throughout there are other engrossing long shots. There is no narrative, but the movie is shot so that you get the feel that everything is from his perspective, his bleak view.

Letters from Iwo Jima is on my list, maybe Ill have to see it sooner than expected.

I haven't seen children of men yet. It's not even at any theater here.

But Ken Watanabe does an excellent job in Letters from Iwo Jima. If you didn't know it's the companion movie to Flags of our Fathers, both directed by Clint Eastwood.
