The local diner here makes a no-bean chili that is amazing. I get it every single time I am there. However, at home I always make ti with beans as that is how I grew up with it; probably because we were super poor and needed the additional calories from the beans.

A lady at work makes gasless chili...I think she puts a teaspoon of baking powder in with the beans and boils them first, then drains them. Works pretty good

Just want good Chili, if it has beans cool, if it doesnt thats fine as well.

I do tend to prefer no beans in general though.

Oh god...not this subject again. The following topics on ATOT should require a licensed professional to post:

- How to cook steak
- How to barbecue
- Does chili have beans?

Chili originated from different locations and everyone put their spin on it. You can make it with beans, without beans, with meat, without meat...the only common factor is it has some type of chili powder in it and is eaten in soup or stew form.

Hell, in some parts of the midwest, chili is most commonly eaten as chili-mac. Chili-mac from Ideal Hot Dog in NW Ohio is one of my favorite foods on earth

Chili should have meat, meat and oh yes, venison. I like mine with avacados, broccoli, squash, apples, oranges, sweet potatoes, firecrackers, concrete, wood chips. But beans? Uh....no.

this is required when using dried beans of any variety.

beans contain a toxin that is destroyed by boiling or long term soaking.

as a side effect, draining the water from the beans (don't reuse the water) removes nearly all the side effects of beans. The gas is caused by the complex sugars in the water and these are food for the bacteria in your gut. They eat it and produce stinky gas.

Some of you have the palates of 6 year olds who refuse to eat anything "green".

My American style chili is made with red kidney beans. I don't go over board with it though. Most importantly, I use 80/20 beef instead of that lean BS!

Think I need to try out a new recipe or experiment w/ my current one.

No fucking beans!

beans a are a filler. i find that the farther north you go the more beans it has. it's kinda weird! I never put beans in my chili.

agreed, chili up here sucks compared to the south
