Doesn't Magnus live in Europe? I could be entirely wrong about that. Pumpkin soup is actually a very common dish here in North America, both in Canada and America though usually it's had more around this time of year than any other. Like I said it's been ages since I've had it but I know for a fact that it IS very good. That and pumpkin pie, YUMM... pumkin pie, you DO have pumpkin pie in NZ right? Has a strong flavour of cinnamon to it.

No, no one I know has had pumpkin pie. That's always something that comes up with discussions about Americans - "is it true they make PIE out of PUMPKIN?!". But that's mostly because "pie" has a different meaning here - sweet pies are relatively uncommon. To us, if someone says "pie" it means something like this:

That name is irritating. Should be Chile con carne if Spanish is being used. Or if butchering the first part, why not the butcher the second too? Chili cone carni.

Chili is very regional and qualifies as an American dish. Just like BBQ, it's all good and there is no standard, despite what Texas thinks. Hell, chili isn't even made the same within Texas.

Got some statitstics to back that up? 7/10 places I go that have chili on the menu it's no beans. Every single fast food place I go to that has it, there's never beans. And in every supermarket by me they have a bigger variety of Con Carne (real chili) than the bullshit with beans. And The Wick Fowler chili kit I bought this evening to make chili, the instructions on the box do not list beans.

you can't be a chili snob when your chili comes out of a box.

My chili has more beans than meat. Chili, black, kidney and butter usually. Some of you would probably freak out after taking a bite of my chili and finding it has corn in it too.

the only corn that should be anywhere near chili is in the chips or tortillas served on the side.

there are various things that will make your stewed meat and spice dish into something other than chili, and kidney beans aren't one of them. if you're making green chili you can use a different kind of bean. black bean is also probably ok in red chili. lima beans make bean and beef stew.
