Then I don't understand what Magnus is getting at.
He probably thinks it's a waste if not used for brewing beer.
Pumpkin soup is yummm.

That and pumpkin pie, YUMM... pumkin pie, you DO have pumpkin pie in NZ right? Has a strong flavour of cinnamon to it.
To us, if someone says "pie" it means something like this:
No, no one I know has had pumpkin pie. That's always something that comes up with discussions about Americans - "is it true they make PIE out of PUMPKIN?!". But that's mostly because "pie" has a different meaning here - sweet pies are relatively uncommon. To us, if someone says "pie" it means something like this:
Resolution:
Chili - Chili peppers
Chili con Carne - Chili peppers with meat
Chili con Carne with Beans - Chili peppers with meat and beans
We all know that chili peppers exist and so does chili with and without beans. This thread boils down to labeling the "chili" correctly?
Chili is very regional and qualifies as an American dish. Just like BBQ, it's all good and there is no standard, despite what Texas thinks. Hell, chili isn't even made the same within Texas.
Got some statitstics to back that up? 7/10 places I go that have chili on the menu it's no beans. Every single fast food place I go to that has it, there's never beans. And in every supermarket by me they have a bigger variety of Con Carne (real chili) than the bullshit with beans. And The Wick Fowler chili kit I bought this evening to make chili, the instructions on the box do not list beans.
My chili has more beans than meat. Chili, black, kidney and butter usually. Some of you would probably freak out after taking a bite of my chili and finding it has corn in it too.

A lot of chili competitions don't allow beans in the chili.
That name is irritating. Should be Chile con carne if Spanish is being used. Or if butchering the first part, why not the butcher the second too? Chili cone carni.
Ahh right. You are closer to the Brits in this than us Canadians. I'm sure pie had that meaning here once too but we have been poisoned by our neighbours to the south.
What other kind of pumpkin is there? You guys don't make those things into soup?
I prefer beans in my chili. I've always thought that chili without beans was made for hot dogs.
