Have anybody here had experience with Chimei 221D LCD monitor? If yes what were you impression of it, how does it compare to more well known brands? Would you recommend picking up one of those, or are there better alternatives?

I've had this monitor for about 4 months now. Price at Newegg now is $209.99 AR + shipping. Rebates from Chimei take about 4 months to receive. I agree with most of the comments about it at Newegg.
The Good: coming from a 17" LCD monitor this looks huge, bright clear (get Microsoft's Clear Type Tuning Powertoy ) screen, no ghosting during gaming, no dead pixels on mine, great colors for a TN panel, no crappy speakers.
The Bad: some light leak at top and bottom of screen visible when watching widescreen movies, unrealistic viewing angle specs -no big deal to me though since I sit directly in front of it, the stand totally sucks - no height adjustment, base is too wide and wobbly. I replaced it with a Ergotron Neo-Flex stand. Well made and fits perfectly. Got it for $30. at Staples

All 22" WS LCD monitors in this price range have TN panels and no adjustable stands. Unless you can find a better deal on one get the Chimei.

Chimei is a very large maker of LCD screens (the part), and have recently ventured into making the entire thing, and in fact the 22" fashion started with them exclusively. The vast majority of 22" monitors have a Chimei panel inside anyway.

Had one for 6 months now and no complaints besides the stand sorta sucking.

Besides that, its a great monitor, and like others have said, chi mei makes all the other monitors besides samsung i believe so this is just the simple cheap solution that works as good as any

I have found that CHIMEI monitors are very off colors-wise, turning to blue too much, among other things.

I've had mine for about a month, and it's been fantastic. The colors are fine, though I did need to calibrate it. Sharp, clear, bright, and big.

Acer's 22" is about the same price. I am not sure which is a better 'deal' though. May want to do a side by side on them. I think Hanns-G may have one in that price range too and they have been favorable as lower priced LCD's by many.

Maybe a little OT. I got tired of screwing with Adobe Gamma to calibrate my monitors so I got a Spyder2 Express Colorimeter. Works great, especially on my laptops. Got mine from Buydig for $59.95 shipped. The software (download the latest version from their website) for it works with Vista.

all of the reviews i have seen are about the same. dont liek the stand, but like the monitor very much

$209.99 ar from newegg sure sounds good for a 22in lcd. ive also noticed that some of the others in this price range dont come with the dvi cable which this one does

This is a brag comment...a year and a half after this thread was posted.

I was walking the dog and noticed a monitor placed by a trash can a few blocks from my house. The screen was a little soiled but it looked okay. The power cord and VGA cord were wrapped around the stand. I figured that it was discarded by someone who bought a replacement and didn't want to recycle or craigslist it.

It is a Chimei 221D. I brought it home and opened it up and started troubleshooting. There were three bad capacitors. I had some replacements in my parts bin and soldered them on. I plugged it in, and voila!

I had an extra DVI cord laying around and the difference between analog and digital was tremendous. The screen cleaned up with no scratches or bad pixels.

I think I made out like a bandit. Chimei might not be the best company out there, but the price I paid for this monitor, (free), was great.
