This discussion has been about the general practice itself, as is the quote. "Investigators found scant evidence of industrial-scale dog breeding for consumption" when the breeding places I saw were readily visible permanent buildings with a big dog painted on them right by the fucking road.

I really have no idea if more pets are consumed during the festival, but presumably the industry plan for such an event. Nobody accuses americans of stealing turkeys specifically for thanksgiving.

I tried it in a restaurant and it's nothing to write home about, literally tasted like tough boney chicken.

You sir are incorrect, this entire thread has been about the festival and how their treatment and butchering of the dogs is abhorrent.

Nothing was said of their food service industry and how dogs are treated related to that.

Tell you what. There are ~75 posts in this thread, and if you can show some plurality of them address the festival specifically and not dog consumption in general I will readily admit I was incorrect.

It's also odd to believe the festival is somehow disconnected to the broader industry. It seems people are protesting it more because it's symbolic. I mean, if the festival had been going on for a while, has it always been an event where vendors go around stealing dogs? Like it's a festival to buy stolen goods? Particularly of much lesser quality than typically made? It's hard to imagine if some vendors sold normal meat and some sold crappy stolen pet meat, the latter would get much business.

I suppose it's entirely possible dognapping crimes occur, esp. in crazy modern china, but the way it's portray here is entirely overblown.

You may want to do some independent research to see what people there do to the dogs. Also, I know a Chinese woman who grew up near Yulin and she said it's worse than what is reported in her experience. Dogs being boiled or skinned alive is common to see among many other insanely terrible forms of torture. Fuck China for a lot of reasons, but especially because of this. Bear bile farming is probably worse. Those fuckers are the worst. I don't think we're perfect, but making a festival out of torturing and inflicting pain is beyond stupid and way worse than what we do here even if you pit it against industrial chicken farms. That shit is bad, but this festival is insane.

It's useful to ponder if our personal biases make any sense. For example you seem to readily believe this dog torture = flavor argument that's perpetuated, after all that's why anyone would bother.

If that's the case, it should also be true of other mammals, ie the beef/pork business at least in china. So can you bother to do some basic research if that's true? Surely trivial for such large and visible industries.

Now I'm not saying it never happens, because all sort of folks believe/do crazy shit, but most of the time it's overblown niche cases. For some perspective, many people around the world believe in similar exaggeration about the US, like schools are scary because of all the shootings, etc.

$10K bomb sniffing dogs were killed in Kuwait when the contract with a security company was cancelled. As a German shepherd owner, this makes me sad/mad.
