Most people seem to forget that China is NOT a first world country. It pretends to be on some levels, but that does not make it so.

Oh for sure. It may have a great combined strength and potential, but the quality of its society have a long way to go yet. The rapid development actually amplifies some of the problems (e.g. driving people to profit at any cost).
