China also tries to import meat too. Its illegal but if the cargo ship is rejected, they'll just dock at another port and try it again hoping that it'll get past inspection since only 3% of things are inspected at docks.

It's pretty sad how unsafe food made in China is. Everyone just wants to make money; they pay no attention to the well being of consumers, and the inspection/legal systems aren't well-developed enough to stop them. Inevitably some of that bad stuff leaks out.

Most people seem to forget that China is NOT a first world country. It pretends to be on some levels, but that does not make it so.

Oh for sure. It may have a great combined strength and potential, but the quality of its society have a long way to go yet. The rapid development actually amplifies some of the problems (e.g. driving people to profit at any cost).

Should the government get more involved in this?

Definitely it should, but the problem is that officials and what-not are being bribed to let things through. I don't see an easy solution to this other than banning food imports from China until they get their act together. My cat died from tainted pet food by the way (kidney failure), this is probably why I have a negative view on it.

They are...there is a website where you can see everything that comes in and is rejected as far as foods go.

I can't remember the link. It shows what country/products are banned as well.

And to think the Bushies, Righto Wackos and Corporate America want to turn the U.S. into a China clone so we can better "compete" with them.

Yeah, because American companies buy their shrimp from South American producers.

This is the topic. How the U.S. can have free trade with China is the issue. We let the Chinese break every international agreement and bounds of common decency to export dangerous products.

I believe the suspected chemical was used as a cheap alternative to glycerine even though glycerine is the listed ingredient. Glycerine is in many soap products as well.

Is this really any surprise? People want everything cheap. They (Chinese) fulfill that want using subpar quality (they aren't a first world nation, you know). You get and deserve what you pay for.
