I'm okay with all this.

I think the USA has enough land to fall back on that in the end, we could just become an agrarian society.

The only thing to worry about then is being conquered. So we would need some sort of militia and an economy large enough to still be able to manufacture guns and bullets.

Who knows, it might be nice?

The people looking for that can just move to Mexico, no need to fuck the rest of us over when there is something close enough just to our south.

Last I checked roughly 40 of the economy is still outright owned or controlled by the Chinese govt./communist party and a good chunk of what remains was hived off to 'private' individuals and families who are friends and relatives of the party leaders. The Chinese govt. still puts out '5 year plans' for the economy. Apparently the country is in it's 12th 5 year plan.

While elements of capitalism have been mixed in, the overall economy is certainly not capitalist.

Actually it's 30% of the assets and only 3% of total enterprises. Both numbers steadily declining. How you can see that as anything but capitalist is beyond me.

Did you just pull that "fact" out of your ass?

Not that I think you're worth a shit, but it's a well known fact that Gov't workers make up ~20% of all workers.

Moreover, they are the top of the heap in terms of income and benefits.

That does not sound like a democracy.

"In Las Vegas (Clark County) the average firefighter earns $199,678 per year. "

"Article number three in Sunday’s paper was about a now retired Las Vegas homicide detective and possible police brutality. It had nothing to do with pensions. But interestingly, the retired homicide detective they quote in the story is 47 years old.

He’s 47 and already retired? "

"Recent studies prove the average janitor that works for government makes over $600,000 more in his career than a private sector janitor."

"I recently talked with a retired New York City toll taker. His salary averaged about $70,000 per year over 20 years. But in his last few years he worked loads of overtime and added in accumulated sick days to get his salary in those final years up to $150,000.

His pension is based on his final years' salary. This is a common pension-padding ploy.

He bragged that he will now get a taxpayer funded pension of $120,000 a year for the rest of his life. He’s only 50 years old. "

Congressional Republicans want to cancel the across-the-board increase in 2011, which would save $2.2 billion.

"Americans are fed up with public employee pay scales far exceeding that in the private sector," says Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., the second-ranking Republican in the House.

Sen. Ted Kaufman, D-Del., says a pay freeze would unfairly scapegoat federal workers without addressing real budget problems.

I can go on and on an on.

At least 20% of you will get pissed off (at me) and defend the above....

Our colleges lead world in what unemployed graduates taught a bunch of nonsense? Student debt? While having a legacy and a couple are still great MIT/Caltech/Stanford I see a lot of foreigners imported from IITs and places like University of Peking to top tech companies and investment banks. Hell if it wasnt for limitations on H1Bs CEOs are begging for all the time I bet our top companies wouldn't even bother with dumbed down grade inflated US university grads. Grad schools and professional schools today are like 50% foreign. Seen you doctor lately? I did and when looking over provider manual over half had Asian names. Foeign, still pass a complicated medical licencing test in English. Become doctors. I wonder how many of our grads could do that say to China?

Do you happen to know the citizenship status of every foreign person you know? People don't get degrees in medicine in the USA just to move back and practice in Asia. Unless your point is simply that the work/study ethic in rapidly developing nations is eclipsing that of complacent America, in which case I agree.

Might be the most true statement every typed on these forums.

How does an educated foreign population tear America apart? At least half of the faculty in my department (chemistry) are "foreign". Most of them have lived here 10+ years and I find it unlikely that many of them have plans of moving back any time. Look around at pretty much any EE/CPE job and you'll find a significant number of legal immigrants, living here. Or does the very idea of being out-competed right here at home scare you as well?

I feel I have to point this out.

That is no different from the USA, or almost any 1st world country. All of these systems are modern day implementations of economic hierarchies that existed under feudalism.

You pay a tax to "own" property. If you fail to pay your tax, you will be removed from "your" property. You do not have the right to do what you wish on "your' property (even if you live in the boonies). For example, few "landowners" have mineral rights to their land.

And if the gov't decides they need to do something for the "greater good" using your property, you will find that your land is not yours no matter where you live.

See eminent domain.

The only thing that will save you is the same thing that would save you in China - public outrage. Most of the time that doesn't happen.

I've always loved this story:

They say Govt employees are the top 1% but since there are 21 million of them and 330m Americans so math does not compute. There are only 120m w2 filings so calling them the top 20% would be more appropriate. But yeah any young ppl posting here govt job or bust. $199,000 for a HS grad maybe firefighter WTF?? Used to be other way around. People that couldn't get private sector jobs were relegated to low paying govt ones. We'll bust eventually if this dynamic is not brought back. Or maybe were slowly morphing into communism.

Fed already gins up trillions to our fed govt who disperses it. Funny money makes loans to our local and state govts who disperses that. In addition to 21 million govt emloyees how many private are totally dependant on govt money? The Lockheeds, the school lunch companies etc... Maybe 50m ppl? I dont know but we are certainly getting to the point where private companies are snuffed out and everyone is dependent on govt for way of life.

And they call China communist and USA capitalist?

I am not really worry about foreigners (quality to be seen) as much as I am worrying about ourself in the USA. We have more and more takers and less and less providers and then we plan to take more and more ILLEGAL immigrants with no skill to compete for jobs with our own poors with no skill.

Not a smart policy and it can not go on forever.

I don't have a clue as to what your statement means in terms of what I quoted and made a statement to. I think you've got some wires crossed somewhere. From what I read, he was talking about partisan politics and deep political divide that this country has (see this forum). As for the other half, they simply want to play whatever the hot video game is and don't give a shit about the country or the downward spiral.

Political apathy is such a novel idea. Why didn't anyone think of it before?

Manufacturing pulled out from under the middle class and the tech/science jobs are next. The smug people around here who are so very happy to see the manufacturing in other countries (so they can buy their cheap stuff) may very well be feeding the country that's going to turn around and eat them.

We did this to ourselves because we are a nation of morons:

1. We sent the jobs overseas.
2. We educated foreign graduate students.

We just gave them our economy and scientific and engineering prowess. Brilliant! We also imported tens of millions of impoverished immigrants. Our nation deserves to descend to third world nationhood and it is in the process of doing so.

So basically government workers do in fact NOT make up the majority of workers. I'll let you figure out why the rest of your talking points are bullshit.

I never claimed to come with the idea. Not sure why the smart ass answers but you'll fit in just fine with the many of the rest here with an attitude like that one.

I'm not at all happy the U.S. has little manufacturing left.

However, I'm not delusional into believing a false reality where I can pretend all these manufacturing jobs could viably stay in the U.S.
