How do they expect their gamers to compete? I could easily violate that rule 3 times in a day back in the days. This is how communism will fall.

I guess it's time to spoof my IP and start gaming on the Asia servers. Those fuckers can't compete with my 46 year old ass if they can't practice enough.

Oh wait, they use hacks.

So this is online gaming? They can't really check on single player games, can they?

A kid could play Baldur's Gate or Morrowind or Oblivion for thousands of hours without big brother even knowing.

Maybe it'll revitalize classic single player gaming.

They lock you up or use some other equivalent "coercive methods" to enforce compliance.

Communist countries fell because they ran out of money. China "reformed" to allow some marketplaces to exist and the money is rolling in so far.

Wall Street Journal had an article about this where they proposed using facial recognition technology and when you register you have to use your government ID number. Pretty scary.

Maybe this will be like those "Yes I am 18 or older" popups. They don't even require any input, just a click. Of if they did, I'm sure you could type in "da-da" and you'd be in.

Or they'll require monitoring software on every PC.... sounds like the perfect excuse, heck they might as well have learned that excuse from us! ("Its for the children".... rotfl)

I feel sorry for the average Chinese person. Such a wealth of culture, and food especially, but their government is terrible IMO. Then again, maybe this will mean less cheaters and gold farmers online?

On a side note, my favorite restaurant is a Szechuan place in Milpitas called Chili Garden. They have fairly authentic dishes IMO, and overall great Chinese food.

I started a thread about this yesterday in P&N:

IOW, China isn't communistic when it comes to money, they are capitalistic. The communism is just a way to maintain control, i.e. they stay in power and make the rules.

I used to "commute" to Milpitas once a month to my user group. I really miss that. They folded. I'd check out that place if I still did that drive (from Berkeley). I'll bookmark your comment in a table I keep for restaurants! Chinese was our family favorite when I was a kid, we'd go out to eat once in a while.

Yeah it is in a shopping center called Milpitas square. Lots of great restaurants there, mostly Asian, as well as a Ranch99 and some tea places.

Guess it might be in a center I'd drive by on the way to/from the business park where we met. I can look it up, of course. Thanks!

That's why I said they "reformed" to allow some marketplaces. Because unlike Westerners, Chinese are pragmatists first. Compromise principle for survival. And they pretty much hit and discovered the steady state all governments strive for. Strong funding to the state with the power to suppress any and all opposition, even from the billionaire class. No need to concede power when the money is that good. Don't bring fries and burgers government(or the original fish and chips) to a wonton battle. People in Anglo countries are too used to the slow yet systemic flexibility the British culture of state-allowed dissent has a precedent of.

Communism vs capitalism is a false contradiction. Government is always the final arbiter of who can and cannot conduct business.

Ah, but what's the government? Not the billionaire class in China. Who? What is it? As long as the money's OK (I hear it ain't so great in China for run of the mill workers) the government's on solid ground.

Government of the people, by the people, for the people is the credo of the USA. Not so in China. Long tradition of dynasties and perhaps arguably we have a dynasty now. Is there much nepotism? Haven't heard of that but one wonders. Certainly there is in N. Korea.

And your assessment that China is pragmatic where others are not is suspect to say the least. Everyone's a pragmatist when the rubber hits the road.
