Even if they didn't, China would be real foolish to attack them due to Japan's allies will back Japan. And there is the factor of Global Trade which China benefits heavily from..

While China has the advantage in raw numbers, the US Navy has more tonnage (+3 million tons). The Chinese ships are meant to operate near Chinese waters, not across the Pacific. They have one aircraft carrier and no cruisers.

Despite barely being involved in WW1, the US entered WW2 as a bunch of bumbling Gomer Pyles for the first couple of years--the earliest days running through Northern Africa.
