You must've missed the news photos of their ICBM silos.
Why? They're social structure still stinks. They are populated and have a fairly small amount of land. Just because their momentum now is good doesn't mean it will continue.Originally posted by: zeon
china isn't a particular threat to anyone right now, their really still in the intial stages of developing then war making capabilities... however in 20-50 years from now they'll easily rival if not surpas any other power in the world, including the us... dismissing china due to their limited capacity right now is very short sighted...
China's Military: Scared?
What you talkinga bout? 300 years ago the US didn't even EXIST. A century ago Britain had the most powerful navy in the world. Their empire was immense. They were the cat's meow and now look at them. Just another (albeit strong) European nation. History doesn't support the idea that a nation can maintain status as super power. No doubt about it the US won't have it forever. It's not a flash in the pan but things will shift.Originally posted by: Booster

Not at all. Not in my lifetime. Of course, empires rise and fall, but it doesn't happen in a year or two. It takes centuries for the civilization to change. And I think that the US can stay a superpower forever. When was the last devastating and world shattering change in the civilization? The falling of the Roman empire, a little less than 2 thousand years ago. Since then, the civilization has stayed almost the same. There has been Western civilization (Europe, and later - Europe and the US), and Eastern (India, China, Arab countries etc). This has remained unchanged for, say, about two thousand years.
Thus, I think it's impossible for us to predict the far future, b/c we can't even imagine what might happen. But in the near future, I don't see China as a threat of any major kind.
They can have 10 Billion men and it wouldn't matter.. they could never afford to deploy them anywhere in such great a number, especially overseas...

Bingo. The U.S. Navy would have China confined to the mainland in less than a day from the arrival of the Seventh Fleet, and it would be the most lopsided naval battle in history.
If America backed down Taiwan would be bent over and lubed up in an hour.

Who ever said CHina can't invade Taiwan right now is obviously misinformed. THe only reason China isn't attacking is because America is getting its big nose into China's business and saying Taiwan should be taken back through peaceful means. If America backed down Taiwan would be bent over and lubed up in an hour.

One billion men doesn't mean anything if you can't deploy them, and China'a Air Force is a joke as well as their Navy. I am not afraid of China in any capacity, hell they have to steal their technology, what does that tell you. Communism is dead....those idiots just haven't realized it yet.
