"The Chinese eat intestines and other organs all the time for supposedly... nutrition. I think they say having Pigs brain soup makes you smarter. Thats just one of the many things I hate about Chinese culture."


Saw someone posted this on a Forum.
UGH I am Chinese and my parents always made those crappy soups.

Damm I am not very fond of my own culture if this is the thing they believe.

What's so "unnatural" about eating those things? Put it in perspective. Throughout history, when resources are scarce (ie during a famine), you obviously want to take full advantage of what little you have. When you kill an animal for food, are you going to throw away all the innards (perfectly good food) just because it's "disgusting"?

Many cultures with a long history include innards in their diets for a reason...

In every culture, peasants cook what we consider unsavory cuts of meat because it is all they could have. The poor don't cook with filet mingon and prime rib. I've eaten pig's brain and dog and all sorts of nasty sounding shit in Vietnam, but to be honest it was mostly good if prepared properly. I've never been to China but would like to go just for the food, precisely the type of food you're embarrassed by. Why do you take your impression of your own culture from someone else? The person you quote must be closed minded and never venture outside of Big Macs and Hot Pockets. The world is full of great food and its your loss if you want to miss out on most of it because you apply the American standard to any dish.

I suspect the unnatural part is not those things themselves, but rather what is added to them like all kinds of weird herbs and crap. a lot of people actually believe it's necessary to drink those soups to be healthy. I mean come on, how many people in the world drink that stuff? Are the rest of them all ill? It's silly.

Anyway, properly cooked intestine is delicious, but it is unhealthy as hell.

First of all, your grammar is horrendous. Judging from this thread, you probably know little to no Mandarin as well. So to sum it up, you hate your ethnic background yet you're unable to compose a structured sentence in your adopted culture. What a failure you've turned out to be.

You should be thankful that you weren't born in an era where pig brain soup is all that your parents could feed you with. I can assure you that when properly prepared, animal intestines stomachs, hearts and livers are some of the tastiest cuts of an animal out there.

A lot of those so-called old beliefs that you find stupid are actually centuries of tradition and culture that is passed down through generations. Naturally, your parents would find tradition more convincing than any argument you might present. Respect it for what it is and you don't need to pass it down to your kids when you have them but to insult your own ethnic background is pathetic.
