Would the majority of Chinese citizens be disturbed or discomfited if they learned of a prison like this?
Maybe not. The Western philosophy of the individual is not universal. In many societies greater importance is given to the family, the race, the nation, and cultural-national face. Society's and the race's cohesiveness is paramount when dealing with an insurgent movement such as Falun Gong, the renegade province of Taiwan, or religious extremists in Tibet.
The Chinese people know full well that Falun Gong is a threat to the order and civility of their society, and must be dealt with swiftly and mercilously. This is only responding in kind, as Falun Gong followers have demonstrated their extremism and manipulative nature in converting thousands of innocents. How do they know? They were told by their government.
As did the patriotic Germans know about the Jews in Nazi Germany. So too do many of you know about the murderers in Camps Delta, Echo, and Iguana.
With continual economic change in China, openness and awareness of things such as this prison may become more widespread. Who knows how the people will react. But if China is pushed to a confrontation with other nations, do not expect them to show "mercy" to their enemies, because they have not shown Western "mercy" to themselves.
