I just got back from Beijing and Shanghai, and boy was i shocked.
THey had faked every good on the planet.

Bose and Beats headphones/speakers...
Watches, purses the works, and with all accessories, warranty cards and docs in original looking packaging sealed and wrapped....

A buddy asked to test out beats headphones, as salesmen unwrapped the box, the ear bud falls off...

He was like 1 out of 100 it happens....

I wish i could have taken pics.... nearly got suckered into $100 Bose QC15,
but as soon as i picked it up you can tell it was fake...

I wonder what percentage of Beats on Ebay are knock-offs.... 75%? 90%?

Technically illegal, but I would say a large majority. I have been screwed over by a few fakes from ebay. Which is basically why I don't use ebay ever. I don't mind buying a "good" fake so long as it's noticeably a fake of good quality. If it was a "Brose" speaker instead of Bose I'd have no problem with buying it if the quality was decent enough for the price I was paying. I have done so with a couple fake Chinese knives. I know they are "inspired" designs made with basically the same materials, same process, and at a much cheaper price.

Yes, Knockoffs suck, and it would be nice if the Chinese government would crack down on them hard, of course they won't until it starts to hurt them ....

I don't mind good quality fakes, but most of them are very badly made. Like stuffs falling apart after being used a few times.

Another vote for "how much worse can Bose or Beats stuff be even if fake".

Wouldn't pay a dollar for real or fake

I got the Bose QC20's and they are amazing in an airplane, which is the reason that I bought them.

But - I didn't buy them in Shanghai.

I suspect my Cowboy Bebop box set I bought several years ago off Ebay for $40 or so is not legitimate. The expected episode quality is there and the menus / box look real, but I only watched it once or twice. Tried again a few years later and some of the discs were unplayable. I'm guessing from being subpar materials, which is why I suspect fake.

At work someone sent me a file on how to spot fake Tyco sprinkler heads. These things are $6 a pop, why would you want to counterfeit something so cheap?

If you go to various flea markets and even some outlet malls across major metropolitan areas in America, you will see some counterfeit goods. Don't buy those things from street vendors / small shops and go to the higher end boutiques if you're worried about counterfeits.

Because you know you can sell them for $5 a pop, and the people installing them think they can get away with saving a couple hundred dollars - unlikely to ever be used, and unlikely for anyone to notice the difference, and likely that if something happened 20 years later, they can claim ignorance.

If it isn't listed as a replica or knockoff, ebay will refund your money nearly 100% of the time. This happens with sneakers all the time. There is a factory in China that brags they can replicate a shoe by just stock reference pictures and you wouldn't be able to tell unless you knew exactly what to look for.

It is getting pretty bad; a lot of these knockoffs sell for like $80 on the replica sites and people turn around and put them up on ebay for $300+. And people buy them without knowing any better.

China is still a very class conscious society. So is India. Which is why you see a lot of counterfeit luxury brands. There's a huge market for people who wan't the logo but can't otherwise afford it.

I live in China and the fake markets are one of the few places you can consistently find larger sizes. Quality varies on electronics. Some are pretty much the same as the goods being copied. Some are complete crap. Clothes are the same. For dress clothes I just get them tailored. Casual clothes are really hit or miss.

I would argue their goods are the real deal cause it's made in China and sold in China... made in China and sold in the US are the real fakes.

Sometimes I wonder how much of Chinese stuff is "fake" and how much is just stuff poached from the factory -- every factory that makes everything is essentially there.

Regardless, I even try to avoid buying anything important in Chinatown.

But if you meet the real rich, they will do anything or pay anything for the real deals. They would rather die than being caught with a faked luxury good by their peers. Something about losing face = unforgiven/taboo/big no no.

My business is to import brand name luxury goods (not fake) from US to Asia and sell for profit (very large margin) for the filthy rich in Asia.
