OK, now comes the most important question. What time should I show up for dinner?

A restaurant near me makes the greatest special called: subgum wonton... it's chicken, shrimp, pork with lots of vegetables and wontons. Great alone, or as a soup!!

mmmmm....
/me off to order large subgum wonton soup

<< <----comes from chinese restaurant family (conincedentally dad was a bostonian) >>

that's funny andy, you looked like a whiteboy on the pic...

anyway, my favorite is chow mein (west coast) aka lo mein (in east coast)
with moo goo gai pan (aka chicken with chinese veggies and musroom) quite healthy....

orange beef is very tasty too (get it if you are in Richmond, VA from a place called House of Hunan).

then get some good orange scallops at this place in Charlotte NC, i think it is called Taiwan Garden or something?

salty spicy fried squid is very good if you like squid (try the place in Eden-Mall in Fairfax VA, try the same thing with softshell crab too)

The Water Wheel in Tahoe, NV has very good Red Cooked Tofu (aka roasted homestyle tofu)

The Hunan Palace in silver spring MD got the best Taiwanese snack/dimsum

For some reason the thought of seafood in chinese food disgusts me. Maybe its still those 'manhatten seafood allergies' I got when living along the disgusting hudson and east river.

<< A slight correction, Harvey - hoisin sauce is oyster sauce. >>

a complete correction... hoisin sauce is NOT oyster sauce.

hoisin sauce is aka plum sauce in some place, it is dark and firm , the chinese character used is "seafood spread"
applications includes peking duck, or moo shu pork. it is however NOT made with plum .....

oyster sauce is a bit runny and lighter in color compare to hoisin sauce, the chinese character used is "oyster sauce"
it is usually used in cooking such as "beef with oyster sauce"

more common sauce such as "duck sauce" is quite light and usually used for egg rolls or fried wontons. some place added chopped peach to give that extra body and more sweetness to it.

<< (sp?) dosnet apply with chinese food.......everyone has the same stuff but everyone spells everything differently >>

Ya, but you think they could at least sound it out, as I understand it Gai is pronounced like the letter G.
>>

you're almost correct... the chinese character for chicken can be pronounced differently

however, GAI is the spelling for the Cantonese and is pronounced like it spelled (Guy)

G is the mandarin/national language pronounciation.
