Headlights are pointed down so you don't blind oncomming traffic. Point them farther down the road and they will illuminate more than flashlights. Much more.

Seriously, the bottom photo demonstrates BAD headlights.

Sure, they illuminate a ton of the surrounding area - but in motion, you don't need THAT much illumination. If you do, you switch to the hi-beams when there is no other traffic, but when there are other vehicles, the top photo is far more suitable for all parties involved. You can still see what you really need to see, and you aren't blinding all other drivers.

It appears that the OP is in SoCal, and I assume that the OP isn't going to travel to whatever non-shooting place Broheim comes from.

So, Broheim comes to SoCal, and someone in SoCal takes him out and shows him how to safely and properly handle a gun. Broheim then asks to borrow the gun. OP shines lights at Broheim. Broheim shoots OP.

Simple.

Or, he could use a bow and arrow. Or, he could use a paint gun. Or, he could use a slingshot. Or, he could use a rubber band. Or, he could shoot daggers at the OP with his eyes.

Or.... maybe Broheim is not really going to shoot the OP for pointing superior Chinese flashlights at him.

It's douchebags like the op that make me wear sunglasses when I drive at night >.< headlights aren't meant to make you see everything around you because that blinds everyone else trying to drive (especially those with photophobia due to migraines).

Looks to me like the headlights are far superior. They light up the road in front of the car without blinding oncoming traffic. The flashlights on the other hand would blind oncoming traffic.

It gets down to tools for the job. Some HID handhelds have bulbs very similar to what's found in auto projectors. Modern projectors will have just the proper cut off to allow for excellent visibility and reduced glare to approaching motorists.

Unfortunately the shade tree guys like to experiment with placing HID parts (often with ridiculously high color temperature ratings!) in projectors designed for halogen capsules. This is very bad because often a hazard is produced when the cutoff is no longer optimal which produces a blinding glare for others, and a higher color temperature kills visibility and wrecks color rendering. But the kids think it's cool. (along with their 99% THD, 160 decibel sound systems)
