I am willing to bet that if you submitted your typical home cooked meal to analysis it would not be considered "healthy".

Good tasting food has lots of salt, fat, protein, carbs, and of course lots and lots of calories in it.

The last time this unhealthy chinese food story came up, someone pointed out that the Chinese eat more rice than anything else and entrees, for example beef and peppers, are secondary.

For all these dudes saying ITZ NOT REAL CHINEZE FOODZ...

Where can I get my hands on some REAL AUTHENTIC Chinese food?

Surely there has to be some restaurants that offer the real deal.

Where do you live? Also, what do you consider to be real Chinese food. List some dishes.

Most Americans think Panda Express is real Chinese food. Yeah, I see a lot of obese Chinese Americans.

I usually order Chicken Soo Guy from my local non-Chinese Chinese restaurant. It comes with an egg roll, chicken chop suey and chicken frie rie.

"Real" chinese food isn't that healthy either, compared to japanese food.

1300 calories sounds like a lot, but I'm willing to wager it's not noticeably worse than most restaurant food.

just to add a tidbit of history: "chop suey" isn't really Chinese food per say. It was invented in the 1850's (yes, by Chinese) in America during the railroad constructions. Originally consisted of all the leftovers of the day mixed together in a pan and given to the 'white' workers. ...

As for the rest of "Chinese food", home-cooked meals differ alot from typical restaurant cooking. I say that because alot of traditional Chinese food is steamed or boiled, and while some are fried, very rarely are items deep fried vs. sauteed. (There are exceptions).

It's two pounds of deep fried, salt drenched, and carb laden overly processed mush?

WTF did they expect to find?

I eat it a couple times a month and enjoy every single unhealthy bite of it. You can pry my crab meat rangoon from my cold dead fingers.

Sorry, can't help you there. Don't know Windsor at all.

Edit: Looked a bit and found this one. I read the Chinese menu and it looks pretty chinese to me. Mind you, I have never eaten there so I can't tell if it is any good.

The real deal would probably have a lot of exotic sea food in it. Jellyfish and sea cucumber, that sort of thing.

Lol, peep into the restaurants say 7pm or so. If most clientèle are older Chinese folks, it's a pretty safe bed

I guess since you're in Ontario, your best bet would be to head to where there's a large population of Chinese immigrants. I checked Ontario's census and it seems to point me towards Toronto as your best bet. If I were visiting Toronto, I would probably find the area with the highest density of Chinese and then search around for where the locals go to eat. I will give you fair warning though, authentic Chinese food typically will not match up with Americanized Chinese food and can be a bit of a shock to those who aren't exposed to it much.

Seafood is a staple food for the coastal cities in China but different provinces will have different standards. If you head to Northern China, you'll find that most of the people eat alot of foods that use flour which will vary from dumplings to onion pancakes to noodles. If you go to Southeast China (Canton and Hong Kong) you'll see alot of seafood dishes for dinner meals.

Not really. My Chinese friends always watch in amazement as I eat plain rice! After observing Chinese eating habits (from dining out with Chinese immigrants more times than I can remember) I would say rice is about 40% of the meal. I certainly eat more rice than any of the Chinese people I eat with.

And after experiencing all of that REAL Chinese food, the Americanized version really isn't all that bad. (though I will agree Panda Express sucks, except the Orange Chicken, yummy)

hummmm, lets see.

Panda Express
Orange Chicken

so if you round up Panda Express orange chicken's portion size to 9.5 (the same as a Mcdonalds double with cheese) they are pretty damn close.

so jsut eat half a double quarter pounder.

Sorry, McDonald's is a corporation, fast, profitable, and American.

The only thing that could make it more evil is if it were most popular in the south (a la Walmart)

We have a crapload of Chinese here too though! I am going to ask my good friend here at work where to get some authentic Chinese grub in Windsor. There's gotta be one or two restaurants that can hook me up.

I'll still enjoy my unhealthy MSG-laden Fong's Villa combo # 3s though
