I'm building a new computer, shooting for November to take advantage of price drops... and of course the new computer will require a motherboard. The problem is that that the features I want arent yet available in all P4 chipsets...
I need AGP 8x, DDR 333, and Serial ATA support on the board... I'm not a big overclocker, I just want good performance at normal settings.
The SIS 648 chipset is available now... the Via chipset is available now (I think), but the Intel chip set (845GE I believe) wont be released until next year.
I'm leaning towards the ASUS P4S8X http://usa.asus.com/mb/socket478/p4s8x/overview.htm using the SIS 648 chipset, but I've always stayed away from them before. My current system uses Via, and I'd prefer using Intel in the new one but I dont want to wait until next year... SIS may be my only choice.
There havent been too many recent articles comparing the latest chipsets for speed and reliability ... anyone know where I can find some hard performance data numbers? Should I stay away from SIS?
