My chipset cooler is dying on my old Msi K8n neo2 platinum. I'm looking for a replacement, any suggestions? I would switch over to water cooling but the AGP card sits on top of the chipset so Pretty sure I can't fit the barbs.

Thanks

THE AKASA AK-210 would be my #1 choice! (24mm high)

Used to be mad hard to find these in the USA (UK product)...

Here's an OLD REVIEW for you... still applies!

EDIT

Oops!

I expect I am one of VERY FEW to have this problem, but, please make sure your motherboard will allow a new chipset cooler, and I can tell you first hand, the MSI Neo Platinum 2 doesn't. The AGP slot is too close to the chipset chip so you have to install the chipset cooler half on/half off which, to my disappointment does not give the thermal adhesive a large enough surface area to completely take effect...

Okay - Plan B - My #2 choice! (10mm high)

EVERCOOL VC-RE TWINKLING VGA & CHIPSET COOLER. This is what most of us DFI LanParty fanbois use (factory recommended too).

BTW, I don't know why they call it a "Twinkling" cooler! The red/blue LEDs stay on all the time, soooo don't worry about that...

zalman makes a nice aluminum passive one that works great on my board, may be too tall though.

Worked for my s939 mobo. The old one was noisy as hell. Right now, the heatsink of this thing gets rather hot though, I can't imagine how the old fan, which was basicaly a small fan in a steel housing, no real heatsink, managed to keep my chipset cool when this ones heatsink gets as hot as it does. Oh, and with my 8800gts in there, it was a good thing that I could turn it was I liked, otherwise it would have hit the 8800gts.

I did this( ZALMAN ZM-NB47J) on my Neo 2 platinum and it worked ok. And I was oc-ing. The chipset got air from the GPU fan. The chipset wasn't very flat though. Concave if I remember correctly. Had to put some extra TIM in the center to get decent contact...but the system was stable and quiet. Cost $5 and 15 min with the dremel

YMMV depending on your GPU. I think the card pictured is an X800

eljaye925thats a good way to do it, I'm running a 7800 gs that push to just below the IDE conectors so anything of real height hits.

aigomorla what chipset cooler is that one in the pic? I emailed EK he said the Nforce 4 will fit so I'll ordered that one and the Enzotech SLF-1 Low Profile cooler just in case.

Thanks for all the ideas I'll let you know how the work when the get here

swiftech MCW30.

The EK is a bit flusher and has barbs in the lower end so you get more clearance.

Like eljaye925 already posted, grab the cheap little Zalman (linked above), a pair of needle nose pliers and/or a dremel, and any old fan you have laying around. Remove or trim any pins on the heatsink that interfere with the video card. Secure the fan anywhere near the heatsink and slow it down to make it inaudible.

I'll 2nd the rec for the Evercool VC-RE cooler, still going strong on my DFI Nforce 4 system. and its low profile so should not cause an issue w/ your video card.

the op got a EK NF4 chipset waterblock

This thread is over. There is no air cooler that will beat this little waterblock in both performance and sound and foot print.

Hi. I just replaced my OEM heatsink/fan on my eVGA NForce4 SLI motherboard. I used the Enzotech SLF-1. At first I was worried about its height that it will interfere with my long, dual slot graphics card. But when I got it, it was the same height as the OEM heatsink/fan. After installing it, my graphics card sits right on top of the heatsink, well, just like when I have the OEM one on before. I've been monitoring the new heatsink temperature (by touching the copper base) and so so good and I have to mention its very quiet. I am very happy that I got it.

the EK NF4 showed up Sat adn I installed it mon, even it for as small as it barely fits, but it does fit adn works great, computer even quieter to boot. I still waiting on the Enzotech SLF-1 to show up. so can't coment on the size of it but for those who water cool and need a tight fitting low profile block I can recommend the EK NF4.

Thanks for all the suggestions

Does Enzotech SLF-1 or CNB-S1L fit the DFI Lanparty NF4-D board? The stock one is getting very noisy lately and definitely need replacement.

Unfortunately the Evercool VC-RE isn't available in my area so I need to look for alternatives. I saw the Thermalright HR-05 SLI which might fit but it's too expensive for me. Any ideas? Thanks!

I can more or less say for fairly certain that the CNB-S1L will fit, I'll have to climb under my desk and check total clearance before I say for sure about the SLF-1.

I will however throw out another vote for the Evercool VC-RE, had one prior to switching to my Jing Ting and it performed quite a bit better than stock but, not nearly as good as this heatpipe cooler, and it's only got one heatpipe.
