chipset fan on ASUS A7M266

i have an asus A7M266 and about a month ago the chipset fan started making loud irratating noises. i have looked but cannot find replacement fans. does anyone know of a good site for this stuff? its pretty bad when the smallest fan in my case is making the most noise.

i have this problem with my A7V133. It sucks. I just unplugged it. I hope to see some responses to your question though so I can possibly replace mine as well.

I had a problem with the fan on my Dragon+ board. I ended up buying a Thermaltake Blue Orb chipset fan. I think I got mine from Newegg. They have a couple of different fans listed for chipsets. I didn't have any problem replacing mine, just had to pull the board to release the spring clips from the bottom. Had to use thermal tape and not the replacement clips though. It is running fine and fairly quiet. Also, you might be able to contact ASUS and get a new chipset fan and be able to replace it, but I don't think I would get a replacement fan from the same people who gave me the one that is screwing up. Or you could RMA it, but that is a fairly big hassle. I guess its your call.

CanisEstInVia - you dont have any fan running on your chipset? thought they would burn up fast, but i guess not. i bought a 3rd party fan but i could not get it to go on my mobo. i have emailed asus (a week ago) and still have not gotten a response....

upward, it's definitely a few degrees warmer with it off, but otherwise fine. I emailed them a week earlier than you did, and I still haven't gotten a response. Ima try and find a number an hopefully contact them. Otherwise an aftermarket one doesnt sound too bad.

edit: I just reread and saw you have a 3rd party fan. What was the problem in installing it?

with the 3rd party fan i will not fit in the old holes of the mobo...i guess if played with it enough i could get it to work, but i was hoping for a perfect fit. ill see what i can do this weekend and let you know.

upwardspiral, you didn't get any thermal tape with the third party fan? That is what I'm using on mine and it is holding strong. It has been installed for about a month, maybe a little longer and it is still on there very solidly. Then again, I guess that would only work if you got a heatsink/fan combo. If you just got another fan, then good luck and sorry for the bad advice.
