Choosing a case

I am looking to build a fairly cheap system in the near future. I am confused though to as which kind of case to buy. My system probably won't cost me more than $800. The shuttle/microATX cases look kind of nice, but what are the advantages and disadvantages to a full tower case? or even a midtower? Would I be able to use standard components? I don't know if it makes a difference, but I would like to be able to play some of the newer games.

As you can see I am somewhat naive about the newer desktops. In the past few years I have only used laptops. My current laptop is an Acer Ferrari 4000, but my current desktop is a P3 500mhz, 512mb, 20gb system.

Plan ATX is probably the best way to go unless you really need a smaller system.

mATX cases will take standard hardware for the most part except the board which has to be mATX also. Working in them is a pain as you are short on space and you are usually limited to budget boards (not necessarily junk) with integrated video.

Shuttles, SFF (small form factor) cases are even smaller and more cramped and run hotter due to their size. You are also often limited to single slot video cards.

Full towers are just too big to be practical.

Some things to consider while choosing a case:

-What color do you like?
-How do you value the quietness of your system?
-Do you need a special amount of expansion bays (5.25" or 3.5")?
-Do you want to use any of your old fans?
-Does it support your motherboard?
