HEY . . . how did this topic sit idle this long? I'm going through case hell right now!

No problem choosing a brand but I'm stuck on which Lian-Li I want for my upcoming upgrade.

I'm planning one step below a top of the line system: Probably an Intel duo processor, dual SATA hard drives (probably not Raptors but something good) and dual video cards.

I like the latest PC60 plus but it got poor noise reviews (have an older PC60 now).
I like the V1000 but I'm a little concerned about the new design and it's almost $100 more than the PC60. And if I read the reviews here right, it was quieter AND cooler than the PC60 plus.
Then there's the V1200 which I wonder if I might need because it can take a larger motherboard and power supply?

I was planning on using the Antec Trio 650w power supply and that has a top intake and back exhaust for it's fans . . . in the 1000v could that cause airflow issues since the PS and hard drives now have their own "chamber?" Does a top power supply maker even make a power supply with a FRONT intake? Is this something I should even be concerned about? I'm thinking not but thought I would ask here anyway.

And then of course there are the new even larger power supplies . . . I won't need one for this build but perhaps the next . . . makes me think the 1200v might be the way to go.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Remember those beige computer cases 'they' used to have back in the old days -- choose any color as long as it's beige, right?!?!?

That's Lian Li!

Pick any aluminum computer case, as long as it's made of aluminum -- and that's Lian Li for you!

Why are you looking at Lian Li cases? Cause they're made out of aluminum?

Sorry, no need to answer. I see you only have 21 posts under your belt...

Have fun with your new Lian Li!

I will. And if it takes 1058 posts to sound like you do then I'll stick with my 21, thanks!

I didn't ressurect this post for a youngster's opinion of a hip case. I was really hoping for some information from people who could answer my questions. Sorry but I'm not into piercings either!

Hi, okay, my new build isn't complete, but I am enjoying putting this TJ06 (ref sig) together. Lots of room for expansion, good thermals and noise levels..(allegedly)

sunbeam rheobus > Any Zalman Fan controller.

I hate the zalman fan controler. The stupid connectors in the back get loose and sometimes kills my fan.

I would even pick the rheobus over the vantec's as they cost less and perform pretty darm well.

Uhh vin... i chose a V1000B and V2000B because there absolutely beautiful. Of course the budget allowed for it, but there absoutely beautful when setup with good cable management. Of course my TJ-07B will pwn all the cases out there, well maybe not a UFO to a UFO lover, but i sure as hell think its the best case ive ever owned.

to me computer building/tweeking is a hobby. So instead of dumping it into my car to make it ricer, id rather drop it on my computer and make it better.

Plus i sit in front of my comp more then i sit in front of my steering wheel.

And you cant really put a price on a hobby. As long as i feel it was money well worth spent, it justifies itself right?

Ehhhh, let's get this thread back on track.

What are the current best cases that use 120mm fans and have decent build quality? For my last build I retired my Lian-Li and went with the comparatively cheap Antec SLK3000-B as per the recommendations here. I was actually very happy with that case--it was quiet, kept my rig cool, and had decent build quality (obviously not up to Lian-Li standards, though). Only cost me $60 as I already had a 550w Enermax PSU and didn't need a case with a power supply.

My next build will be a C2D and I could be perfectly content sticking with the Antec case, but I just wanted to know if there are any other options I should consider that would be significantly better. What's "teh new hotness" in cases with 120mm fans?

I've really been enjoying the Antec 900. PSU on the bottom makes it seem extra roomy. Three 120mm fans, plus the 200mm plus fan on the top, and spaces for another 120mm fan on the other side of the HD cage, and a place for a fifth one on the window.

So far, I have only OC'd my C2D E4300 to 300 x 9, and with Prime95 running the CPU temp is reporting in the low 30s in a very cool room. That is with the side off and all of the fans set on low. Very quiet with these settings, though I am told it can get quite loud if you give 12v to all of the fans. Dunno if it is what you are looking for, but it works for me, for now.

Hmm, I posted about my Antec Sonata in this string way back in 04. Still got that box... wish I had a way to find a good home for it.

Lian-Li arent soley a high price manufacturer, the PC-7+ is a excelent case, that on build quality and capability blows a lot of more expensive cases out of the water. Thier more expensive cases are still comparable to others in their price bracket, but with the excelent design and finishing touches that Lian-Li put on all their cases.

And i'm not sure the problems with aluminium...... lighter by far than steel, and still very strong, and most gaming cases are moving towards it as a material. It's sure nice not to nearly give myself a hernia trying to heft a full tower around!

I like spending money on my computer, and the case is arguably one of the more important parts of the system (ive broken mobos before trying to sho-horn them into badly designed ones), and its the part you SEE. I dont spend my time looking at my case, and i dont go for windows and UV and LEDs ect, i prefer a case that is sleek and minimalist and tasteful, without compromising on cooling, quietness, or internal space and upgradeability.

In the end, a decent case will last you forever, as long as you dont drop it out the window or something stupid, so picking one that WILL last, and you will WANT to keep using makes sense.
