You have already probably said more than you should have. I will be curious to hear the whole story once it's over, in any case.

that doesn't make any sense. Obviously you can't serve on a jury if you don't believe people are innocent until proven guilty. That is a primary requirement of being on a jury.

Hahaha. I'm still trying to come up with the twisted logic that you used to come to this.

Yeah, the grief stricken loved ones and having gruesome evidence presented to you and all the associated minutia would be a hoot.

Thankfully most murder "victims" are no better than the people who killed them. Being on a case where a decent, law-abiding citizen was killed would be tough, but if it's one ghetto drug dealer shooting another then it's entertainment.

I've sat on 3 juries, but they were all fairly boring.
Underage consumption/assault, drunk driving, and domestic violence.

The domestic violence one was the most exciting.
The woman staged an attack and recorded the whole attack on her cellphone "accidentally".
She was screaming bloody murder and the guy was calmly saying "What are you doing? Get off of me! Leave me alone!" I was surprised, but all 12 of us found him to be innocent right out of the gate.

Anyone else get on a jury for a serious case like this?

Served in one mid July 2010 for 2 days.

Told by the female judge (white, mid 50's) what to accept as evidence, not to speculate (what if's), weigh on what was presented, final rebuttals where not evidence, etc. We were allowed to take notes, but they were to be kept locked in the jury room in the end of the day. We were allowed to go home but not to talk to anyone about it (including co jurors), visit the crime scene, do internet searches.

Defense Atty. were 2 guys (mid 30's), Prosecution 2 ladies (mid 40's, 1 hot, 1 pretty). They are known and popular around the Chicago area.

54yr old woman(white) kills husband (stabbing with 8" kitchen knife, 15 times) in bedroom. Wasn't made clear if husband was awake or sleeping. Or if there was a fight or quarrel between them two. Shown pictures of the crime screen, police video of interrogation, knife, etc. Forensics and psychiatric evidence were presented. Police/detective, paramedic, doctors also told what they saw or what might/supposedly happened.

We were served lunch which were ordered nearby, choose from a menu. 6 men and 6 women of different ethnicity and age. 1 pretty substitute juror (white female, blond, mid 20's, special care teacher) who also sat with us, but was excused from giving the verdict.

Preliminary verdict was 7 2nd degree and 5 1st degree. Almost heated argument on what to choose. About 2-3 hours of deliberation settled on a verdict of 2nd degree murder. After verdict was read we were told that we can leave the building (9 pm). Not sure what the sentence was.

Earned $17.20/day - $34.40. Learned a lot how trials are done on those short 2 days.

The fact that a prosecutor was even willing to take that case to court is horrifying.

Its very clear.....instead of referring to him as a defendant he referred to hims as "the criminal" ......he has already branded him guilty.

Stop reading what isn't there. What I said was accurate, the defense was going to put up a witness who was a convicted felon (not the defendant, who I believe may have had a criminal record as well). That's what the questioning was about.

Also, from what they inferred by the questioning, they pretty much had the guy on video and he ran from the cops.

I've been called for jury duty 4 times now, I'm only 35. Never made it past jury selection though.

I think it would be kind of interesting, but I thought the jury selection process was a bit sketchy. On one for a murder case, the defendant & lawyer are there so of course the defendants family & friends were there as well and they all looked like gangstas. Meanwhile, all the potential jurors had to stand up and say what part of town they lived in and where they worked.

Get out of doing jury duty. What if you get sequestered and the case drags on and on. Yeah....fun. Where do I sign?

If there's a serious reason to fear intimidation then juries can be anonymous.

If the defendant and his supporters all looked like thugs that would just make me more inclined to convict his ass.
