If a group of 10 or so Muslims went to protest a promise keeper or some other christian gathering they'd probably have rocks thrown at them too.

I don't expect anyone to take kindly to a group that is not from their religion that they are celebrating reacting well to that protest group.

It's why I don't make a point to walk up to any religious gathering yelling the lyrics to NIN's "Heresy"

Why the hell are a group of Christians protesting an Arab festival? Simply because they don't like Muslims? Sounds like they were looking for trouble, and they found it.
Everyone has freedom of speech, the violence isn't justified

Freedom of speech does not extended to creating a situation that affects public safety.

The Christian group was looking for trouble - they found it.

Outrage not found

Oh bullshit as usual. This happens each year. They travel to Dearborn and expect the Police to protect their hateful asses each year instead of police the 17 city blocks that covers the fest. Scew them and the feigned indignation found in spades... A good portion of Dearborn Arabs are CHRISTIAN and not Muslim BTW. I grew up in this town and 10-25% are just simply not Muslim at all. Can't tell the difference though, so I guess you just have to hate each and every one of them and paint them evil MUSLIMS/ISLAMISTS at the ARABfest. They are simply tired of assholes coming to their city and spreading hate during their their celebrations. "Christian" hypocrites. Were the shoe on the other foot and a handful of Muslims traveled down South and pulled the same shit each year, I'm sure there would have been a very peaceful and very dissimilar reactions, yuppp. One thing you can count on though each year, them coming, them crying, them leaving with their tails between their legs, them lying. GTFU

This ^^

I was at the festival last year and enjoyed it. Did not feel any anxiety at all.

Was violence justified? No.

Do I feel even a shred of sympathy for the Christian antagonists? Nope.

Same.

And if the situation were reversed, the Islamophobic OP would be complaining about how wrong it was for Muslims to instigate Christians. Everything goes in only one direction for this guy, who seems to be here almost solely to bash Muslims.

ETA: Kudos to you EagleKeeper. Seriously.

Yeah, damn them and their silly notion that the police should protect their freedoms and liberty!

It's one thing to say that when you antagonize a crowd there could be negative consequences, but it's completely another to say that the police should ignore those who violate the civil rights of the protesters. That would mean that you effectively do not have freedom of speech anymore.

These folks are like the westboro idiots, a test of the country. As disdainful or despicable as their opinion might be, they should be free to express it and the authorities should protect their rights to do so.

The source for this is WND, so I don't trust them to be accurate on the story so it's hard to tell what really happened.

Uh, yes, it does. As long as those expressing their opinion are not doing anything to endanger anyone (and no, expressing an unpopular opinion doesn't count), they are entitled to express their opinion and have their rights protected.

Otherwise, wouldn't that mean anyone expressing an opinion that some group for some reason doesn't like is "fair game" for violence?

While the idea seems fun to be able to throw stuff and chase off protesters, its against the law. So they should be charged with assault etc.

Awesome! Next time I see a bunch of non-bathers sitting in a park, stinking up the place, I can throw bottles at them to make them go away!

That said, they were protesting the wrong thing in the wrong way. They earned what they received. They sowed hate, they should not be surprised when they reaped hate.

I agree with that, just like the westboro fools should not be surprised if someone goes nuts at some point and harms them, but that does not mean the authorities should not protect their rights.

nothing like yet another real life example of religion spawning evil and hatred.

Meh, everything humans engage in has the potential to be twisted by people into hate. Look at the evil done by atheists in their attempt to remove religion.

The OP got so pwned in this thread it is epic.

I have never seen the likes of such a stupid OP.

I guess he would make a thread about how the Germans were persecuted because the French attacked them after they invaded France.

starting shit means having a different opinion and voicing it?

Yeah I'm sure the pigs head on a stick was just a misunderstanding and not trying to start shit.

Personally I think that if you go that far out of your way to cause trouble you need to live with the consequences. Deliberately provoking a large number of people and then expecting the cops to put themselves in danger to protect your arse is just stupid and cowardly.

They would likely be killed, those promise keepers are fucking nuts.

Also another thread Incorruptible was lying in.

Well said, I dont care what the Christians said, everyone has the right to freedom of speech we can never limit it. If the people didnt like what was being heard then they can ignore it or PEACEFULLY protest back.

The police refused to do there job, they couldnt even give 2 officers Yet had 14 officers pull over the protestors once they left, double standards

I highly doubt this. Promise Keepers rallies have been protested many times over the years...I cannot find one incident of crowd violence against these protesters.
