All of those faiths are vehemently AGAINST the lifestyle those guys are trying to promote, so having a gay-parade sort of a deal in the place where the 3 major religions clash as-is is just idiotic. Tolerance is the last thing that part of the region has to offer, i mean common what has been going on in Israel for the past 40 years?

On the other hand, Israel has a pretty good record on gay rights. There is a flourishing gay and lesbian community in Israel. There is a vibrant liberal/ secular society in Israel. It's important to remember, also, that Reform Judaism has become supportive of gay people, is supportive of gay relationships, etc. So the fact that a bunch of grumpy old men dressed up in ridiculous costumes (take a look at the pic that goes with the article, and then tell me those old coots look any less ridiculius than Riprorin's gays on parade) don't look kindly on this gay pride festival is not a reason to cancel it.

Now, here's where things get sticky.....I saw this thread and thought to myself, damn, that's a quandry for the world. What do i mean? Well, what has started more wars and killed more people over time than anything? Religion. And for those that say things like religion=sh*t...........considering 80%+ of the world population considers themselves part of one of the many religious fractions........you can't ignore these numbers or dismiss them as "sh*t".

My point? Well, if something like this can get the major religions together and talking, perhaps good would come of it......perhaps they could see their common ground and agree to do more good for everyone worldwide and bring to an end the divisions that are still the root of many conflicts. I mean whether you like it or not, various religious groups do a lot charity wise and helping thrid world countries and children. Perhaps somehwere down the line they would even see the error in their way as it affects the gay community. Does not the needs of the many still outweigh the needs of the one?

Astaroth...I would agree w/ you but you need to revise that statement to read something more like "western religions and even some eastern religions." No disrespect to you or any other poster. I just see comments like that made a lot but I know that it comes from a lack of knowledge (don't confuse this w/ stupidity) of what's really out there in the world...cultures, beliefs, etc. You ever hear of the Assyrian Church of the East? It was and is the first Church ever. We never viewed our form of Christianity like the western Church(es). We never even viewed it as a religion. We viewed it as a lifestyle and for it we were killed by western christians, arab muslims in the conquest, and any other group/nation that later accepted either of those two, and also others (list too long to mention). We never oppressed others and/or forced anyone to believe a certain way and proselytizing was done by living our lifestyle in front of others...if they chose to accept it, fine...and if not, that's up to them. As a matter of fact, it was the largest Christian Church up until the 14th Century when the Mongolian-Islamic invasion destroyed many of our churches and killed our people. This, coupled w/ the Roman Church's attempts to assert its own form of the religion led to the decline of our Church. We're still around though...chuggin along till the end, Lord willing.
