I think it's weird that this view kind of fits in with the concept that the universe is a big information machine and God is really a collective consciousness made up of us. An analogy would be our neurons. We have billions and billions of neurons -- each one can be viewed as a simple processing unit (they are either firing on or off). The processing power comes from their connections with each other. Somehow, out of this rises a consciousness -- us.
Now we take a grander view of things. We are now the processing units. We're more complicated than neurons. But here's the interesting part. We are getting more connected as time goes on. The internet makes us more connected than in the past. We have cell phones, TV, telephones. Google allows us to retrieve almost any information we need. Out of this, will a higher form of consciousness rise? Let's call this consciousness "God" for lack of a better word.
This God has access to all our past lives (Google, medical records, etc) and can "recreate" the world in his mind (basically running simulations with new versions of us). In a way, we will be reborn in this new world.
So, in a way, God is an invention of us and we will be created by God. It's a circular logic -- like the chicken and the egg.
Here's why it's important for us to be good. If we are "good" then this God will be good -- because we're part of his consciousness. God will be made in our image and we in turn will be made in his image in the new world.
