Gov. Chris Christie gave the first glimpse of what he'd do if Americans elected him to the White House while speaking to New Hampshire Republicans in the presidential battleground state tonight.

http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2015/02/christie_in_new_hampshire.html#comments

Let's see, historically low approval rate in NJ, pending pension disaster, bankrupt transportation fund, Atlantic City implosion, several pending federal investigations including Bridgegate, multiple credit downgrades, signs that his "personality cult" is getting old etc. Yep! Christie is poised for takeoff on the national stage. He can't even carry his home state.

hope that platform is reinforced.

Yeah, because fat jokes worked so well the first time he was elected governor.

I don't think his comments could even be considered anything close to a "platform" considering how generic and anodyne they were. Most democrats could say the same thing and not seem out of place.

Unless he's announcing something specific besides hollow talking points then he's really not announcing anything.

Has there ever been a presidential candidate that wasn't for a "good energy policy"? Or, "changing the tax system", or, " making America stronger abroad"?

The question is and always has been...how?

Well we already know the republican playbook so unless he intends to go against his republican colleagues and big donors, his plans consists of opening federal land up for oil, cutting taxes for the wealthy, and increasing military spending. Policies that we we've already tried for the last 35 years and those policies didn't work out so well for your average American.

At one point, I thought he would be a viable candidate. I no longer believe this is the case.

And, using the thread I just left as an example, here's one of 100's of anti-Christie campaign points: (assuming the thread was accurate) "A 72 year old man was charged with a felony in Christie's state for collecting old firearms - he was found with a 300 year old flint lock pistol; the guy is a collector - and they want to lock him up and send him to prison for the rest of his life."

Yeah, he's not going anywhere. Being a loudmouth douchebag plays well in Jersey for a while, but it doesn't travel well.

Other than that, he's done jack for NJ. The only real accomplishment I can think of is when all the Camden police were fired and were replaced by county officers. Its slightly less of a hellhole for less money

Big Chicken has no chance.

I'm pretty sure there is video and photographic evidence of him hugging the Kenyan Usurper.

Wait - so if you're a little skinny guy who does care about health you have the right to tell other people how to live?

That's pretty fucked.

Sooooo, help me out here... what's the horrible analog to obesity that also makes so many other illnesses and conditions worse? I know it's a catchy little flip, but if you think about it the comparison kind of, well, sucks.

Is there an upcoming skinny epidemic I didn't hear about? And if so, can we divert it to Mississippi somehow? Sorry, but last I checked skinny people live longer, and enjoy fewer health issues too.

Christie? No thanks.

I'm pretty amazed that he's still a serious candidate. It says a lot about how terrible the whole GOP field is right now. He's a petty opportunistic fatass with no new ideas and he's exactly the kind of idiot who would start a war over petty bullshit.

Replace NJ and Christie with KS and Brownback...

2 GOP governors who have done amazing work to wreck their states.

But they represent Family Values! They get my vote!
(I'm not really sure what that phrase means since I rarely ask politicians to judge my personal life)

Did you just compare a racist comment based on the physical characteristics that one is born with to a comment about a trait that's based on one's behavior?

I think the bridge fiasco did him in as a serious contender for President.

I would agree that was a serious black eye on the national stage. People care less about politicians who sleep around than they do if one messes with their commute.

I don't believe that living longer and having fewer health issues should give one any moral power to tell others how to live their lives.

Yep. The only thing I liked about Christie was his being above the fray, sort of an anti-politician. The bridge fiasco ended that. Either he is the most petty of partisan politicians, or his appointed staff believes he is okay with them being the most petty of partisan politicians on his behalf. (Obviously no one believes that now, but that's always the case after one gets caught.)

Um, Obama has been called a monkey far, far less than Bush was called a monkey.

The more I learn about obesity the less appropriate attacking people for their weight seems. Success rates for keeping off weight are in some ways lower than success rates for kicking alcohol, meth and heroin, but people seem to give drug addicts a lot more of a break. it has really opened my eyes to the issue.

Christie is a nasty, petty hypocrite. Isn't that enough?

Also, no. Calling a white guy a monkey and a black guy a monkey isn't the same thing. When you use a stereotype of people being ape like and subhuman as a reason to enslave, rape, and murder them for a few centuries it is somewhat tactless to revive that comparison.
