Surf & Turf off the grill.

I grill up steaks and shrimp on the BBQ. We've also had steamed crab legs a couple years too.

Wife and I were kind of sick of the notion of cooking up another bird so soon after Turkey Day, and we have a pork allergy in the house so ham is out. We kind of decided that we wanted something a bit "different/offbeat", so that's what we came up with.

I bet your neighbors if/when they go outside are jealous to smell that BBQ goodness...

usually it's lasagna, but this year is going to be a madhouse... somehow like 20 people ended up getting invited to my parents house for dinner on Christmas Eve.

there's no way we'll do a sit-down dinner with that many people, so we're doing pot-luck instead (with the subtext of, grab a plate and find your own seat anywhere in the house, though I assume the dining room table will be set for the adults)

I'm probably going to make buffalo chicken meatballs and a chocolate mousse cake.

Beef tenderloin in a special family marinade. I've been allowed to grill it, but I still don't know the recipe for the marinade.

Last Xmas my father was recovering from surgery to repair a subdural hematoma. He was extremely lucky that a Dr. decided to perform a CAT scan when he did and that my dad had no permanent brain damage.

That Xmas we asked him what he wanted for Xmas dinner and he said a ham with pineapple and cherries like he had when he was a kid. That's our new family tradition.

We switch it up between Mexican and Italian. Thanksgiving is generally so close to Christmas that everyone is still over eating Turkey.

Pretty much always turkey, though we did an old school ham with this amazing brown sugar, pineapple gravy a few times in the past. Really need to bust that out again.

It seems very rare that I see "surf and turf" refer to something other than lobster & filet. I was going to correct you, but a moment of googling, and it seems that what you call surf & turf is common somewhere (not around here though.) I'd be deeply disappointed if I blindly ordered surf & turf and got shrimp.

I do like brisket. My local grocery store is selling it for $9/lb.
Speaking of turf, I saw a special in my grocery store last night - whole beef tenderloins for only $7.88 a pound. A "tradition" over the past decade is that I cook on Christmas - generally beef on weck, plus I do a bunch of ham for ham/ham sandwiches. I'm thinking that this year I might do filet mignon (using the common American usage of any part of the tenderloin, rather than just the tip) for everyone. I've been considering doing stuffed prawns - and if I do, I'm tempted to order some mega-colossal prawns (2 to 4 count per pound.)

Edit: dinner will be prime rib & shrimp scampi. Breakfast will be filet mignon.

i can get choice brisket at costco for ~$2.50/lb.

i may do a meat festival. i've got several racks of ribs in the freezer, along with some prime new yorks i got for <$6.00/lb (local grocery chain has prime beef in the case, if it gets too near the sell by date they package it as 'select' and sell it for the select price). might even have a brisket in there as well.

Usually have Prime Rib and a Ham. We used to have a Duck occasionally but they cost way too much now.
