Question Chrome freeze my PC after Windows 2004 update

It seems that Chrome freezes my PC from time to time when using Chrome after the update.

I have to shutdown and restart the PC to get it working. Firefox seems fine. Anyone?

I noticed on one of my PC's that I use primarily for my weather station data collection and uploading to my website that there was an update (KB4559309) for Edge, and it added Edge to the taskbar.
This is on version 1909.

Seems not a Chrome issue, but a Windows issue.

After updating to 2004, the PC just freezes randomly, even if using Firefox.

I've had issues with the update on my laptop as well, including where it totally froze up. It was when I was using Chrome as well.

I've blocked the update on all my other PCs for now. I haven't had many issues with Windows updates for a while before this one, but I haven't been impressed with this latest update.

I also use the newest Edge as well.

Looks like I need to reinstall Windows 10 1909 and block the upgrade to 2004.

The PC still freezes randomly when using Firefox for past 2 days.

I didn't have issues with the 2004 update, but the 2020-06 Cumulative seemed to have issues.

Also, AFTER the update to 2004, MAKE SURE to update: 1) Your graphics driver, to the very newest (maybe beta) available for your GPU/iGPU, and 2) your anti-virus software, possibly un-install and re-install newest.

Which is 'ironic' given EdgeChrome.

Well, it's a Pentium G3258 system with Intel iGPU.

There isn't a separate Windows 10 driver download from Intel's website.

Chrome just had an update this week, version 83.0.4103.106 . It seems to have fixed the issue I was having with it and the 2020-06 Windows update.

I have the same version and it still happens across all browsers: Chrome, Edge and Firefox.

Yeah. I updated my post above.

It happens about 3 - 4 times a day for the machine.

Still manageable.

How old is the PC? Are you sure it's not overheating?

About 5 years. That's why I started thinking whether it's dying.

Maybe just coincided with the 2004 upgrade?

Will redo a 1909 installation over the weekend see if it solves the problem.

I think you're on to something there. Time for some troubleshooting.

perhaps test your ram, system temps and hard drive health.

This is *likely* a hardware problem of some sort. Revert to 1909 and see if the freezing does go away, worth a try.

Another thing to try is to disable the option in the browser settings to use hardware acceleration. If it resolves the issue, it might indicate an overheating or failing video card (or corrupted video card drivers).

Uninstall chrome and test PC. this helps to identify is Chrome or Windows update.
Update the drivers for your hardware.
