Chromebook or cheap laptop?

Hi! I was wondering whether or not you'd recommend a chromebook or a cheap laptop. I built a PC last November for gaming and multimedia editing, so this will be for schoolwork, multimedia viewing, and web browsing. If I get a laptop, I'd put office and a few movies along with more frequently used, low power applications. Which should I get? I'm looking to spend less than $400 on a laptop too. Please recommend one!

The Microsoft store has an i5 Windows PC for under $400 today, and there are many other laptop deals in the $300 - 400 range, Chromebooks are $200 - 300.

The only advantages of a Chromebook are price and not worrying as much about security. You can always run the Chrome browser on Windows to use any Chromebook apps. So, since this isn't for grandma I'd suggest a real laptop.

I agree. I dont really see the point to chromebooks. The price is right, and they look nice in the store, but I want real windows in a laptop.

In regards to the OP, what about something like the Transformer T100. It is a bit small, but comes with Office.

Especially if he's from some european countries (Germany, Croatia..) where there will soon be a model with 500GB HDD in the keyboard dock. It's a nice little machine. I'm waiting for my 64+500, two weeks they told me in the shop.

I would certainly go for a "real" laptop with whichever OS you choose.
