So I've seen a lot of discussions regarding connecting a Chromecast on a University (Enterprise) network and how it unfortunately doesn't yet work. This made me start thinking about how to get these things working at school. (BTW I'm not a networking genius, so bear with me)
At my university we have several Wireless networks are there for different purposes and are enterprise networks. Therefore, Chromecasts aren't supported. However, we do have our Gaming Network were you must go through the process of registering your device's MAC address to gain access to the network. Obviously only certain things/services are allowed, so connecting your laptop is pointless since it isn't designed for that purpose. As a result, both devices can't communicate to each other.
Here's my idea for a possible work around and I'm curious as to if it would work. Would it be possible for an individual to register both his/her Chromecast and streaming device (Laptop,Tablet, Phone) to this "gaming" type network and somehow associate or "link" them together to where the streaming device will have access to the supported Chromecast apps and the Chromecast itself will be able to communicate with the streaming device. Would this be possible through Wireless Client Isolation by altering the MAC forwarding tables since there will possibly be hundreds of user's devices/chromecasts on the particular network? That may not even be something that is actually possible so forgive my lack of knowledge. :hmm::\
I'm sure the way I explained it was confusing, but hopefully you guys get the point of what I'm saying.
Let me know what you think or if this has already been done a long time ago.
