This now limits them to $500 a car or so instead of the regular $2000 or more. The dealer and manufacturer are still getting thier share.

Nah, it definitely is hurting the big three. I live in one of the metro detroit suburbs and a lot of people work for one of the auto companies. Considering that the margins on cars were extremely low already (only a couple hundred for a lot of cars) and the fact that they make very little on employee purchases, I think they are only hurting themselves byt starting this price war. Oh, and my dad mentioned that this isn't new, or at least at Chrysler. Apparently any employee was allowed to give out employee discounts to 5 other people (per year? I don't remember the duration).

Employees get discounts on all cars. Also they get to pick cars from special lots. Like kinda-used cars. They can also custom order their own vehicles and track em. Also they get sweet lease deals.

The deal for consumers applies the same discount off the price for many models. You don't get all the employee perks, like the special lots, custom orders, or leases. The top-selling ones are excluded, like the 300 or probably the Crossfire. All Chrysler Group brands (Chrysler Dodge Jeep) are included.

Sounds to me that the employee discount gets it slightly below invoice. Standard supplier discounts are slightly above invoice. Dealers just try to rip everyone else off by marking it up as much as you will accept. To the dealers, however, sales are sales. They still get their commissions, and everyone gets to report good numbers.

I think the Pacifica is a beautiful vehicle. I rented one to go up Northern Calif and the AWD came in pretty handy on the side roads. The car seemed well made and it had lots of power. The cornering ability of that vehicle is pretty nice too.
Check it out at the local dealership.

They don't get their cars from special lots. For employees to get the discount, they need to order the vechicles, because it's not fair to the dealership since they do not make any profit off of the car.

Also, the harder to get, limited production vechicles are off limits to the employees.

What employee perks are you talking about? Other than the discount there are none.

Man the chrysler 300 would have been an option if this employee discount was available for it, but unfortunately not. They shouldn't call this an employee discount for everyone, but just an incredible sale on select vehicles. I think GM has it on all their cars but just 2. Chrysler has half of its fleet misssing if I'm not wrong. Well hope all you get the vehicle you want for a great price.

Yes, they do exclude certain cars at times.

This sale is a sweet deal for the general public and screws us that normally get the discount. This is because they dropped incentives by a few thousand. And of course I'm buying a new Dodge Ram this week.

Sorry the MB's aren't included in the discount. It's the American cars that they are having issues selling.

EnEyeEm - I can't comment on Chrysler's discount during normal times, but as a person who gets the GM employee discount, I can tell you that GM will exclude some models from the discount at times (particularly when a low volume model is new and hot, such as a new Corvette). Having said that, these employee discount programs that the Big 2.5 are running are more restrictive than the typical employee discount program...Ford, for example, is limiting their discount to Ford/Lincoln/Mercury. Ford employees also get discount on Volvo/Jag/Rover, something that is not open to the general public getting the employee discount right now.

Anybody can custom order their own vehicle. They may not be able to track it, the dealership will have to do that for them, but they can custom order it.

Yeah, you rarely (if ever) see any of the German car manufacturers playing this game, plus it totally kills resell value of the car.

If someone could, please explain to me the difference between "Everyone gets the employee discount" and "These cars are on sale". Don't both statements mean less expensive cars?

It's like saying "pre-owned" when they mean "used".

I'm not trying to thread crap, I'm just a little confused.

It means everyone gets green sheet price, which is alot cheaper than any sale. I wonder how it makes the employees feel, now they arent really getting anything special.

Still employed because of increased sales, maybe?

I've purchased 2 Jeeps through Chrysler's employee discount program and know many people who have done the same thing. I picked both of them off the lot, got a number from Chrysler and they dealer changed the price at the time of sale. I didn't have to special order the car.
