Cinemax HD now on Comcast cable

Check it out on channel 319 in the Detroit area. Don't know what channel it may be on in other areas. I subscribe to Cinemax, but my cousin who does not subscribe, is also receiving it right now. Don't know how long that will last. I believe you need the Digital HD cable box to receive this at all.

I had heard that Cinemax HD and Starz HD would both be available to Sat. and cable companies by the 22nd of this month, but I haven't seen Starz HD show up anywhere yet. Following the numbering scheme that Comcast has been using, if they carry it, it will probably show up on channel 369.

Not that this is the right place for this conversation, but StarzHD is already on Voom. The rumor I saw said StarzHD would be on DirecTV by the end of the month, while CinemaxHD, A&E HD, Bravo HD, and Fox Sports HD would be added in the spring after the new satellite is operational.

Just curious, where did you hear the info on the 22nd for Starz/Cinemax? Was that DirecTV, or Dish?

Voom looks good on paper, but here are my issues with it:

1) It's owned by Cablevision. <shudder>
2) Enormous equipment costs.
3) Initial reports from early adopters indicate poor installation, mediocre service, and reception issues

Once Voom has been in service for at least a year, has at least a couple million subscribers to keep it afloat, and has proved itself worthy of not being another failed network, I might try it.

That said, I can't afford it. I already pay for HBO and SHO. Cinemax HD is the same cropped movies as on HBO-HD. Starz-HD is cropped also.

I'd rather have TMC-HD because Comcast throws in TMC for free with SHO.

Oh, I don't disagree with that. I have my own list of Voom concerns. My only point was that StarzHD is already available... it can be seen on Voom now, as well as on some cable networks. I'm just trying to understand what the "available the 22nd" statement means, and where it came from.

Starz and Cinemax HD have been available through Comcast in the Pgh region since Dec 3rd . Too bad Comcast charges so much more than Adelphia. Used to get EVERY pay channel, EVERY digital channel and the cable modem (now @ 3Mbps for Adelphia as well) for $113. Paying more than that with Comcast and I don't have it all
